It was only an issue if you're a hyper-christian who masturbates to the thought of the American flag. That, and it made for a good news cycle if you were a reporter.

It's simple

A small proportion of Muslims disrespect British culture

So in return a small proportion of British people disrespect them

Coupled with the typical xenophobic attitude the elder generation in this country has and media outlets like the Sun and Daily Mail almost promoting this attitude to the sheeple and hey, you have rising anti-Islamic views disproportionate to the number of actually disrespectful Muslims.

Oh I'm fine with that, I think I remember hearing about that mosque on the news. Dunno why people were angry over a mosque built a few blocks away. New York is dense and full of culture, a mosque built close by is bound to happen.

On ground zero would be silly though
