Thoughts? I think it's funny people are so excited as if this means republicans can now operate without opposition.

It's a shame, really.

Plenty of people think that.Reading a few Internet comments/misunderstanding people doesn't constitute as "plenty of people". To say people think any party can operate without opposition is simply you using hyperbole or just outright lying. The latter being most likely.

I'm not surprisedPeople just got hyped with the Democrats because Obama is half black. Now that he has only two years and much of his promises he never kept, it's like people waking up from a long night of drinking and thinking "ugh, shouldn't have done that"
Its not just congress or governors. State legislators were even more of a bloodbath. Meh. Havent been too bothered to be honest. In more of a sit back and watch mode. Dem turnout was abysmal so I don't think this says much about 2016, or the country. Especially if you look at polling on the issues. Will be interesting to see where things go from here though.

His supporters have dwindled, no doubt about that. Granted that's normal with all presidencies. But I can see people are willing to let the republicans handle things, especially locally with the governors.

Seeing as how Obama's average approval rating is the lowest since Carter, people are simply fed up with him and his redundant policies
When no one votes republicans win. In this off year cycle only a third of the eligible voting population showed up to vote. Plus you had a bunch of voter suppression tactics being used in various states.
It's not really a big deal, it's just how our Govt. works.

Keeping the poor and minorities out of the voting booth is to their advantage.

I'm not even surprised that this happened and in fact I predicted it too due to the fact that it's an off year election and off year elections almost always have abysmal voter turn out rates.

But yeah elections like this will indeed have low turnout rates. But considering the turnout rate is relatively constant for these elections, it's hardly a valid excuse to use as this being a relevant variable into the GOP wining.
