Criminalising abortion only leads to malpractice and an increase in mortality/morbidity rates amongst pregnant women attempting to undertake abortions without the aid of a medical professional. Even if you do find it morally reprehensible, it's pretty much the lesser of two evils at this point.I'm very hesitant that illegal clinics will spurt up everywhere. Show me numbers of the current illegal abortions being conducted and I'll think differently but I feel that's just as much of a valid argument as voter IDs are necessary to reduce voter fraud

By malpractice and illegal abortions I was more thinking along the lines of a coat hanger or a quick nudge down the stairs, since you know, medically sound abortions would be pretty much unavailable under a criminalised abortion system. It's pretty hard to gauge the statistics of 'illegal' abortions since by and large, abortions are legal and easily accessible in the Western World. But if you're referring to third world shitholes, they're extremely rampant, because FUNNILY enough, abortion is heavily penalised. Africa in particular has 420,000 unsafe abortions according to WHO. Unaccessibility to contraceptives also doesn't help.
