Even though humanity has existed for tens of thousands of years the people over in Europe discovered North America some hundreds of years ago. Then when it comes to our moon which has been up there for billions of years some decades ago we walked on it. When it comes to our own planet we know more about space then what we do at the bottom of the ocean. The point is that if there is life out there they would be hindered by distance or technology.
"tens of thousands" absolutely PALES in comparison to thirteen billion

we're talking .00001% of the universe's lifetime

really not a great comparison

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Im for it of course.

we should be just dumping money on technological advancement anyway

Reasons I'm for it:
Exploring space could help answer many unanswered questions here on earth.
Earth won't last forever.
It will help further technology.
We have so much to learn about space

Reasons I'm Against it
It costs a shit ton of money.
We don't even have our shit straight here on earth yet

Doesn't paying for space travel seem kinda silly when you think about it?

Paying for anything seems kinda silly to me, but...

We're trying to cut down space travel costs with reusable rockets. The technology used is outstanding but still infant.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
yeah but only because research in that department is great for technological advances

I see my point went right over your head. I'm going to try a second time. My point is that for the amount of time humanity has been on this planet. The people over at Europe recently discovered North America even though it's a huge continent. Now lets get down to our galaxy. So far we have discovered 500 solar systems in our galaxy which we are still finding new ones. Scientists have estimated that there are tens of billions of solar systems in our galaxy if not 100 billion. Then there's the planets that make them up. Even with the amount of time our galaxy has existed for you're not going to discover every planet out there in it. So then if there's intelligent alien life out there that has space travel the chances of them finding us are low. There's just too much space to travel and far too many planets in the way of ours.

Cost a shit ton relative to what?

We don't even have our shit straight here on earth yet
Why should that have an effect on space travel?

My stupidity is self evident.
I'm the kind of whacko that believes in the pursuit of knowledge and engineering for their own sake. Ignore me.

Earth is fucked and isn't going to last forever, so yeah, I'm for it.

That's a pretty big damn waiting line until we reach the "fucked" point.

What was it? Billions of years? Supposedly our present type of human haven't even been around for what. 100,000 years yet? And it's only in the last couple centuries that we've especially kicked off from a sociatal standpoint and technological. Unless of course you're advocating for,

"Oh, our bad, we dun goofed up our planet, let's jump ship to another, rinse and repeat."

Got to start some time.

Earth is overcrowded and on a slow trip into the shitter. The sooner we start the more time we have.
