The Rage....
I honestly don't see the downsides to it except the dangers of it. It helps bring knowledge to people and we develop some neat inventions. Apart from human deaths being a possibility and encountering another alien race (which may be hostile, but those chances are so small). I mean, we develop new ways to kill people, why not develop new ways to help people?

Thoughts or opinions on space programs?

I honestly don't see much hope of humanity ever colonizing other planets, but I still think space travel is the most important technological frontier of our time.

Y.
What productive purpose could we possibly serve by going into space? Seems like a colossal waste of time and money.

Anyone that's against space travel is against the advancement of humanity.
Indeed.

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are
I am 100% for space travel! Space maybe vast and dark, but it is bountiful of excessive, unused asteroid resources. Resources that are hard to find or do NOT exist on Earth. Resources that could very well help humanity to thrive and expand in space. The only thing that truly stops us, is fear....

Spoiler
And ignorance

Um, both. While I can't disagree necessarily with the idea of space travel for the purpose of harvesting unearthly resources, I'm obviously completely against the terraformation of other planets (which, good luck accomplishing that anyway).

Space travel to the point where we can comfortably and expediently make multiple round trips to other planets is SO far into the future, it's hard to contrive a reality where we could ever feasibly do it, so from my perspective, it seems like a waste of time and money, and we should instead focus on making the most of what we already have here.

As for the hostile aliens, I... don't believe in aliens, really. So there's that.
I'll believe them when I see them.

Our galaxy had a 13,000,000,000 year head start, so you'd think they'd have found us by now.

Doubt it. The universe itself has 1 billion years over our galaxy. I'm sure millions of other galaxies have been created within that interim.

Then we need to know more and to know more, we need to explore.

However stars that would have existed during that time would have been extremely heavier element poor, only consisting of basic light elements, it's unlikely that life could have formed until probably our sun's generation of stars, due to a lack of elements required for planets to even form, or for life to form from those elements

its very possible were one of the first

Its equally possible that life does live elsewhere, but breathes, eats, moves, thinks and reacts differently than we do.

what are you basing this apparent likeliness on

From the lack of exploration of course. No one can comfortably and confidently say (without a shred of doubt) that all potential life in the Universe has to be or will be the same as it is on Earth once its discovered.

For it. But not really.

I think, at best, we'll only ever play skipping stones across water in our solar backyard. At a heavy cost, mind you. Lightspeed, on this particular aspect of the universe, is the physical barrier and speed limit.

And it's fucking painfully slow anywhere beyond our solar system. Traveling beyond our solar sytem and spreading like seeds to other planets and systems?

Setting the bar way too fucking high, way too early.

Find out how to harvest asteroids first. More resources for home, without having to fuck up home.

Even though humanity has existed for tens of thousands of years the people over in Europe discovered North America some hundreds of years ago. Then when it comes to our moon which has been up there for billions of years some decades ago we walked on it. When it comes to our own planet we know more about space then what we do at the bottom of the ocean. The point is that if there is life out there they would be hindered by distance or technology.

Planet wise it would make traveling easier since you can just go into space and then drop down on the location you're heading to. When it comes to resources we need it to do space mining. We have a lot of water but we don't have the tech to make it and it's the same for metal. Eventually we will get limited down on the metal we have so we need other sources to mine it from. For information being able to go to other planets would increase our knowledge about or galaxy, the universe and maybe life itself if we find it.

It's not something we should be spending huge on right now, but we should be spending in some manner. It's important, Earth isn't going to last forever.
