Private companies owning nukes.

I recently had an argument with a fellow online who said that if nukes were in the hands of private companies and not government, that the world would've been destroyed by now.

Obviously I disagree, as there is no profit incentive to nuking anyone when the energy put into a nuclear device could be put to more profitable uses (i.e. electricity), not to mention that people wouldn't willingly do business with a company that nuked someone without damn good reason.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Considering the amount of psychopaths the CEO population has in comparison to the general populace, it isn't a good idea to allow them to have nukes. . .

I feel extreme discomfort at the thought of anyone owning a device capable of making my particular part of the world unlivable. It's not that I think the average person would be willing or even inclined to go through with it, but the sensible (at least sensible enough to avoid a nuclear war with someone else) people in power don't always stay in power.

They would use nuclear energy to make money and when cheaper, better alternatives came in, they'd threaten their competitors with nuclear fallout.

War generates a hell of a lot of money if you're in the right market. I can think of a plethora of reasons why handing over nukes to private entities is completely retarded.
