and you can neither prove nor disprove a philosophy
Quote from: Kinder on October 28, 2014, 11:24:21 AMI'm disgusted you think you can claim such findings for Catholicism, especially when the first man on your list was declared a heretic and deprived of his liberties. We don't "owe" these people as Catholics anything at all. We owe them as rationalists, empiricists and scientists - no creed or person can lay claim to such things. There is no truth in Catholic cosmology, just as there is no truth in Deutsche Physik or Islamic mathematics. The truth is the truth, and while religion has been inexorably intertwined with massive cultural leaps throughout history, it has often been in spite of modernity as opposed to alongside it.

You are not intelligent, you are just regurgitating some rhetoric from Dawkins.
I used Dawkins as an example because Dawkins is like Jesus for edgy neckbeards.
You seem mad that despite people having devout religious beliefs, they were still able to create and shape modern science as we know it. The same modern science that you atheists love to brag so much about and in turn shit on religious persons. Very ironic
Well my jaw just hit the floor. As long as he doesn't suddenly flip and start up another inquisition, Pope Francis is going to easily be the best pope in... well pretty much the entire lifespan of the catholic church.A pro-science, pro-equality and generally nice guy from what I've seen.Oh and inb4thefundiesscreamhe'snotarealchristian
When somebody is actually intelligent and knows that religion is a joke and that god is not real, and somebody calls them "edgy" or says something equally retarded like that, they are actually just trolling, right?

The same modern science that you atheists love to brag so much about and in turn shit on religious persons. Very ironic. . . What the hell are you talking about? I'm saying being a certain religion doesn't convey ownership, or even marginally higher respect, over or towards scientific findings. Atheists don't brag about science so much as people who, y'know, respect empiricism. You can't seriously imply that New Age spiritualists and Buddhists - who don't believe in a deity - are always bragging about science and its merits. The only instance in which reasonable atheists will "turn shit on religious persons" when science enters the foray is when the religious are explicitly in denial of the facts or acting in a patently dangerous way. I'm not in any way implying that devout religious people can't contribute to science, or otherwise shouldn't, the furthest I'm going is saying that the correlation is declining for a reason.
Please, keep denying that religion has been a major player in scientific advancement
Quote from: Kinder on October 28, 2014, 06:06:28 PMPlease, keep denying that religion has been a major player in scientific advancementExcept I didn't deny that. I quite implicitly accepted it in my premise. You're either not reading what I've said, or intentionally being moronic.

If you accept it, then why make outlandish statements as such that make contradictions?

Agnosticism is the only "intelligent" belief.>DawkinsI didn't even know who that guy was until a few months ago and I've been atheist my entire life. What about people in Asia who are atheist? They all blindly follow some random British dude too? This is one the stupidest arguments I've ever heard. So people weren't atheist before Dawkins? How can you such incredibly retarded things and manage to figure out how to use a computer to say them? I'm genuinely interested.I used Dawkins as an example because Dawkins is like Jesus for edgy neckbeards. Buddhists are Existentialists. Existentialism =/= Atheism. Either way, my point still stands. Agnosticism is the only intelligent belief.

Isaac Newton, one of my idols and beyond a genius, believed in alchemy.
for the same reason he does not believe in bigfoot
