His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
Patenting medicine really shouldn't be a thing.
It's supposed to be an incentive to innovate medicine. Whether it works or not? I have no idea.

Why take the burden of developing new things if someone would be able to utilize your findings and make the same product as you but charge less because they weren't the ones investing in research?

1. This has absolutely nothing to do with patents.
2. Yes it should, the whole idea of patents is to incentivise production in industries with high development costs.

So why is his company the only one that can make this pill?
I've never been unable to find a generic version of any medicine I've ever needed.

Think of it less as creating incentive as it is preventing the destruction of incentive. Without patents competition could literally just steal the profits out from under you and you are left with the bill.

The drug is incredibly niche, so nobody other than the manufacturers creates it. There is no generic version of Daraprim, so when Turing Pharmaceuticals AG managed to obtain the manufacturing license they had a monopoly on it.

Sorry, the efficacy of the pharmaceutical industry isn't constrained by your irrational hatred of profits. If it works, who cares? When it doesn't, fix it. Profit is a morally neutral phenomenon.

Yknow you spend all of this time always complaining about how everyone ought to not be so self-interested and that it is disgusting that personal interest drives action, but at the same time maintain that you're different from those people while you continue to spend time playing video games and bantering on online forums when you could be volunteering or trying to advocate some of your more noble values.

When have I ever said that I was different than anyone? In a non-joking fashion?

And by posting on these forums, I am advocating for my values.

The problem isn't that treatments are too expensive, it's that the mainstream healthcare community is pushing the wrong types of treatments that are absurdly expensive. It's not just pills that are expensive, it's these unnecessarily complicated and expensive diagnostic tools that really start to add to the bills.

Profiting off of the welfare of other people simply cannot be "morally" neutral.

The profit should be "one person didn't suffer and die today." That's your payoff.
That should be satisfactory enough.

I don't think they're terribly different. It just seems that way because my ideas would require the system to be flipped over its head (as well as a change in how human beings conduct themselves), and your ideas are... Well, you might call them "realistic" or "feasible." I would call them something else.

I call them empirical.

If anything, you must admit the positions you take on economic issues have very sparse evidence behind them.

Remove money. Problem solved.
I'm fairly confident you don't, in fact, believe it is really that simple.

Like I said. Half assed joking. I mean, if people were actually ready for a concept like that? Yeah, we could pull it off. There's no reason why it couldn't work. But the truth is, we already exist in another system. People are too attached to it. The system itself as it is now isn't made to be modified beyond what it functions as now.

It's built off the more selfish aspects of human nature. The people at the top will never relinquish control over that power, and the people at the bottom won't let it crumble because of their security in monetary value.

Long story short, no. It's not so simple. And it never will be. People always have to needlessly complicate shit for no reason.

You mean, other than the fact the modern economy is based upon the scarcity of resources and money is useful for the functions of distribution and exchange?

No, other than the fact that people don't seem to remember that you literally don't need money to fucking accomplish anything. A system without money could still function on the fact that we do have limited resources.

But that's the issue. Nobody would be intelligent or sensible about it.

They're not even fucking intelligent or sensible about the current system in place. You honestly think that money has any hinderance on resource consumption? No. It's the opposite.

The concept of money is a natural evolution of all economies, and  it is an inevitability of any civilization.

The concept of money is a natural evolution of all economies, and  it is an inevitability of any civilization.

Naturally, of course.

That doesn't mean that it should stick around long past its due. At the very least, if you don't believe that a system devoid of money could work, you can openly admit that the current one is barely functioning.

It supports greed, self interest and selfishness, and supports excess wasteful usage of resources. I'd be the first to say that a system without currency is a very long god time off because people are too fucking stupid to manage it like they are for this one.

Meta even said it himself at one point. We've engineered a system that makes psychopathy productive. We've also made a system that favors psychopaths and gives them free reign to do what they please because they have that one little imaginary batch of numbers in their bank accounts and share holdings that gives them the keys to everything.

So guess what? Keeping a system like this one in place is asking for inevitable trouble and failure.

At the very minimum, to say the least, it needs an extreme overhaul.
