Also, it's likely there for the same reason that Camp Pendleton uses some of their areas as paintball/airsoft recreation - for marines to enjoy R&R and moral boost.

Officers have had their own golf courses on post since the 1800's guys. Their luxuries and decadence shouldn't surprise anyone. Haven't you heard me complain about how the Officer corps is only a ceremonial waste of tax money anymore given the new role of the modern NCO before?
