I could see why you'd delete evidence, even if it could save them from a harsher punishment. Basic logic: "If I completely remove myself from this, I can't get in trouble, hooray!"

I suppose he can't exactly get in trouble for owning CP if he deleted it, right?

He's a minor himself so I'm not sure if that comes into play.
I'm fairly certain they can both potentially be charged for CP, actually. Might depend on the state.

Pedophiles, rapists, and murders all need psychiatric evaluations and counseling, as well. Not to compare what he did with any of those three acts, but a lapse in judgement doesn't excuse the action.

I really have no idea how to feel about all of this. On one hand, yes, what he did is certainly wrong if the description of the person he was trying to get nudes from was emotionally unstable and depressed. On the other, I do see how a sex offense charge could be perceived as excessive in this situation. He's only thirteen, I'm sure he doesn't understand the moral ramifications of what he was doing. Or he did, I don't know. Point is, there's really not a lot that I feel comfortable arguing, because I can't peek inside your little brother's head, or look at any of the evidence that was apparently deleted.

Yeah, probably. It's such a harmless wrongdoing that I don't see why punishment should be handled outside of the household or school system unless they're being leaked to others and/or bullying is going on.
