It's called assault and battery. More specifically, assault and battery on an officer. It's a felony offense that carries 1-10 years in prison.

Assault is the threat, either verbal or non verbal
Battery is the action of the attack

That being said, British police officers in this country deal with knives on a daily basis, without the use of deadly force. I'm more understanding of the officers' position though, but it is still blatantly evident that there is a problem with methods of enforcement and the racism within the force.

But look at the video:  Yes he did have a knife on him, but he was already walking away from the cops, and only "lunged" forward after the first shot.
