This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Probably about time you guys just got rid of the FDA.

You realize food producers are allowed up to 2% of "other" product, meaning your dinner could have very well consisted of 2% of human shit

Now I might be wrong, but isn't it relatively simple to test tissue and blood for HIV/AIDS?

Just test the donor/deceased and if they are clean - Use their tissue/blood. If they aren't, then you've either saved lives from preventing their infected tissues from being transplanted or diagnosed an undiagnosed patient.

Ah I see, then it's somewhat understandable that they ban it. I don't necessarily agree, but I think it's better than accidentally giving someone AIDS in a hospital. That being said, I would be surprised to find a blood donor who doesn't think of unprotected sex as a risk for future donations. Quite a tricky one really <.<

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I can see why they're refusing to accept donations from homosexuals (as they run a higher risk), but then again, the fear of infected donated blood/tissue should also apply to heterosexuals too, right?

Simple rules should apply for all: If person (regardless of sexual orientation) has had sex in x time previous to today (x being time that potential infection would show up in tests as Flee mentioned), then they can't donate. Don't even need tests; a simple tick-box on a form would suffice.

If they're reasons go beyond the risk of infection, than obviously the FDA is becoming borderline Nazi with the screening process.

You don't want anyone who has had sex within say the past week, to donate blood?

I doubt many people will be donating then, A week is a long time.

Going to pose a question for the discussion.

If gay men are prevented from donating due to their increased risk to contract HIV, should heterosexuals who practice unprotected sex as well?

I'd rather not have AIDS/HIV coursing through my veins simply because there wasn't proper checks to ensure whatever I was receiving was safe in the first place.

My point exactly!...kinda.

It doesn't make sense that homosexuals are singled out because of this if heterosexuals aren't.

Of course, you'd think that would be standard as well. If people practise safe sex -> donate away. If people practise unsafe sex -> No way.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
"should not" means "lie on the little checklist they give you before you donate blood" to me.
I'm sure the same method works here.
