- Gun owners tend to be white, male, conservative, and live in rural areas.
While there are an estimated 55 million American gun owners, most own an average of just three firearms, and nearly half own just one or two, according to the survey results. Then there are America’s gun super-owners – an estimated 7.7 million Americans who own between eight and 140 guns. This kind of concentrated ownership isn’t unique to guns, firearms researchers noted. Marketing experts suggest that the most devoted 20% consumers will typically account for 80% of a product’s sales.Azrael, the lead author of the study, said there was no research on “whether owning a large number of guns is a greater risk factor than owning a few guns”.
It would be interesting to see these numbers run across what minority groups have access to guns vs white groups.I'm sure Das and Chally would be enthused at the results.

I don't know about you guys but I think a race war or holy war is nigh.

Just yesterday, the FBI published its crime report for 2015. For the first time in years, violent crime rose a not unsignificant amount in 2015 compared to the year before. It's still lower than what it was a few years back, but violent crime and murder rates are once again on the rise in the US. And as far as I'm aware, 2016 is shaping up to be even worse.

The rise in crime has been concentrated in big cities' segregated and impoverished neighborhoods. Experts said crime there can best be fought through better community policing and alternatives to incarceration for nonviolent crime.
