So first of all, this isn't like politics -- if the EM Drive really did work, the entirety of the scientific community would be happy. Nobody is discounting this because of personal preference. It is being discounted, however, because it really just doesn't appear to stand up to physical law. This paper hasn't been published, meaning it hasn't been peer reviewed or replicated. The basic conclusion is that the EmDrive is producing a small (but significant) thrust without the use of fuel. What the paper ultimately shows is that the measuring device is recording some thrust, and despite some of that force being caused by thermal expansion, they propose that a portion of the total thrust is being generated by the device as designed. I'm very skeptical of an experiment with admitted, significant error (the magnitude of which is greater than or equal to the "true" thrust from the system). Does thermal expansion and offgassing actually result in the thrust they've quantified here? How do we know if the effects of thermal expansion aren't resulting in some other force being erroneously measured?

It's a good paper, and I look forward to seeing reviews of the paper as well as improved conditions to minimize the errors for the next experiment. But I still don't believe it is capable of working the way it's been touted.

Stuff like this should be on here more often. Yeah, I'm a constant skeptic but that's what science is. If this device actually worked, it would arguably be the most significant scientific discovery since nuclear fission was discovered. It essentially allows the output of more energy than is put in -- ostensibly it could create an infinite supply of energy.

But, it's also important to realize that Eagleworks is a fringe science lab with a shitty reputation, and this isn't really being worked on by NASA.
