This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.

Now I know some of the examples in the videos are quite extreme, but most of them aren't that unthinkable. I readily litter, smoke and get into shouting matches with some people. While this is no doubt, probably in large part too, down to my psychology and my bad genes--especially the last one--it's also all behaviour that my mother has displayed while I've been growing up.

I wonder why people just aren't intuitively good parents. Is it because we evolved the capacity for nurturing our babies, which was enough while roaming the Serengeti, but we haven't adapted properly to ideas of social responsibility and living in close proximity with thousands of other humans beings?

Moms spaghetti
We've got lots of spare time now. The equivalent of a family used to be a group of humans struggling to survive. Now its more about the actual relationships. Relationships are more difficult than "sit down and learn how to spear fish or you'll die".

We're actually good parents in comparison to most other species.

Almost always, with moderation
Some people don't always take into account that their actions early on affect their children, my little sister acts like my mom, because thats all she ever saw.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
"Parents - They fuck you up"

I guess nurture overcomes nature in this case. If a child has a bad parent, they are more likely to be bad themselves when they have children (or be over-caring and cushion their child if it bounces back).

Then again, you can get bad children in a good family simply because of genes - My aunt was the good kid from a crazy family, met my Uncle, and now their daughter is off the rails crazy, despite the parents being good and caring.

The same applies to fears and other habits as well. E.g. a divorced family can have children afraid of spiders with the mother, and fearless children with the father.

For a lot of species, though, parenting is completely nonexistent.

i guess it really depends on the parent and the kid really. If the parent is a shit person and the kid has a tendency to do things just because someone close to them does it, then yeah it won't be good. Then there's also the type of parents that are pretty cool and nice, and there's kids that actually question something and think before they do it.

The way i'm raised my Mom is a good person but just like any human being she has her bad qualities, and she does expect me and my brother to be the type of kid that does what they're told and to not question it but we do, which usually will get a kid in trouble. Also with that scene about smoking, that doesn't always happen. My mom smokes a lot and rarely drinks (very rarely) and i have no intention to do either mostly due to medical conditions but still you get the point. But then there's my brother who smokes and drinks a lot, but that may also be because he's at that age.

TL;DR it really depends on the people.

It's a strong argument for why children need to be raised in one large government facility.

Honestly, what else do you want? That is objectively the only reason why you have had shitty parents. They had no idea what they were doing with you, or just didn't give a single fuck about you.
