You guys get to vote in just over a month on whether or not you want to leave the EU.

You guys can do it, I believe in you. The UK will make The Great Escape. I sincerely hope none of you are fed lies into believing the EU is somehow beneficial to you.

Unnecessary overreach does not trump your independence.

The UK is very split on staying. It's pretty much 50/50. It's clear there's a good majority of people that don't want to stay and their line of thinking is no longer being shit on.

It'll remain with the EU

I prefer to stay, it kinda affects my freedom of movement.

If the UK left the EU, Ireland would have no real reason to not join the EU's Schengen area and allow freedom of movement between other EU states (Ireland has long since wanted to join, but Britain refuses to and so Ireland has maintained the agreement, hence why I have to bring my feckin' passport often). The problem with that is the freedom of movement between Ireland, Northern Ireland and Mainland Britain would be repealed (otherwise folks could just go from Romania to Ireland, and then hop on a ferry to Britain or try their luck at the Irish/Northern Irish border and live there long enough to apply for British citizenship, and etc, etc.., bypassing Britain's strict immigration control).

I quite enjoy the easy movement of just hopping on a ferry on a whim to visit family without needing a passport or rigorous security, so that's my reason to stay. There's probably a ton of other reasons that I also support, but that's one that directly affects me.

Less influence and power in the world since the United Kingdom will split up within the next 20 years.

something something Braveheart. Did you know they actually played that all day on stations in Scotland the day before the referendum?

That movie sucks so much.

I don't get why they'd want to leave the EU either, especially at a time Europe needs to be more than united against an increasingly aggressive Russia.

As opposed to the alternative of leaving immigration entirely to the weaker and less wealthy border states who would never be able to sustain tens of thousands of refugees and would have to let heaps of them through without any sort of supervision? Not to say that the EU's immigration approach is anywhere near perfect, but do you really think that this would be any better if poorer countries like Greece and Bulgaria were left to their own devices when it came to dealing with hundreds of thousands of refugees swarming their borders?

If the EU didn't help by providing additional funding, installation of border monitoring facilities, increased border patrols, actions against smugglers, relocation of refugees, joint processing of asylum applications, cross-border safety measures (identification and fingerprinting of all migrants) international agreements with nearby countries like Turkey, programs for the return of immigrants to safe countries, projects to monitor immigrants crossing the border, developmental aid in countries from which the refugees originate from or pass through and regulations allowing for the return of immigrants to their original point of entry, those border countries would have buckled within weeks and we'd now have more refugees causing more problems with less information or supervision thereof all across Europe.
I do get that it's doing as good of a job as it can considering the scale of the problem and I don't really fault the EU for the way it's handling it. I think that considering the UK was being a stubborn little bugger for the schengen agreement it's not too bad for us but it's kind of... eh. Refugees are one thing, but when they are coming from countries that are just a bit shit rather than being ripped apart by warfare... eeeh. We (uk) already have enough problems with migrants who refuse to assimilate and our politicians are either wet lettuces or foaming at the mouth when it comes to the matter.

My gut says we are better off in and in all likelihood that's what I'll vote for in a month, but the migrant crisis has kind of given it a good kicking <_<

I'm curious why so many want to leave. I'm fairly confident the UK citizens will see the light in the end and make the right choice by voting to stay, but I don't get why so many want out. Sure, the EU is sluggish, bureaucratic and takes away some legislative autonomy. It's far from perfect and has numerous flaws. But it also comes with a very large number of benefits for both the people of Europe and the UK. So can someone explain me why they want out so badly?
Have you ever seen the Daily Express/Mail headlines?

Off the top of my head for the last week we had

'ANOTHER 900,000 ON THEIR WAY' (migrants)
'NOW THE EU IS WAGING WAR ON OUR KETTLES' (power consumption regulations on household appliances)
'£3 BILLION SPENT ON IMMIGRANT CHILDREN IN OUR SCHOOLS' (Only skimmed that headline)

They've been doing shit like that^ and blowing everything out of all proportion for the last 4-5 years. Alternate headlines include the running gag of 'ALZHEIMERS CURE FINALLY FOUND' (Once per week minimum) and 'ARTHRITIS IS DONE FOR' (To mix things up a little for the old people).

They are widely circulated rags so you get a nice fearmongering attitude spread pretty far, they never talk about any of the benefits of the EU either.

Nearly every opinion poll conducted has levelled at 50/50 give or take a couple of percentage points. It's basically impossible to tell what the UK will vote on June 23rd.

Moderate migration is one thing, but Psy has hit the nail on the head when it comes to what REAL UK Citizens are bothered about in terms of migration. And that's mass migration of a group of people that have no real interest to assimilate. When the UK looks at countries like Germany and France who bend over backwards for these people (I don't think anyone needs to link the woman kicked out of her apartment in Germany story again) and are expected to do the same, of course they want to abandon a sinking ship.

That and coupled with the slightly smaller issues that the EU has rustled the wrong way with the UK like having to carry other countries on their back economically *cough*cough*Greece*cough*, and kind of going back to migration scene with their repeated agenda of making Nationalism the new Nazism and WRONGLY. Once again, your independence as a country comes before unneeded overreach. As for the aggressive Russia, you can be a well defended Europe from foreign threats without losing your national identity, something the EU just doesn't get.

The only light at the end of the tunnel is the metaphorical exit out. The foreign powers that want the UK to stay have zero interest in what the UK citizens want and simply wish to keep the UK in just to benefit themselves. The notion that the UK will somehow be weaker without the EU constantly throttling them is trying to keep the UK citizens from voting what they want out of fear.

C'mon, now Flee, this is a pretty shameful mischaracterization of the arguments being espoused here. I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a Brexiter who isn't some sawdust headed EDL member that actually believes zero migration is a net benefit to the country. Nobody is saying immigration is bad, or unnecessary for the economy. What most level headed eurosceptics posit is that, mass uncontrolled migration (particularly from the Middle East and Sub Saharan Africa) can have largely negative effects on the areas they migrate to. Not because they're intrinsically evil people, but because the values they've been brought up with are antithetical to the values of most Western liberal democracies. They have proven time and time again that they are almost incapable of assimilating properly.

I think it's pretty insulting that you think the mainstream line of thought from Brexiters is that we all want to shut up shop and let zero people in the country. I urge you to find me one reputable Brexiter that actually believed that. The In Campaign is just as guilty of fearmongering itself, if not more hysterically so.

Point is, there are going to be drawbacks and positives to this referendum regardless of the outcome. So no, not all Brexiters are closeted BNP voters that want to build a wall around Calais and 'keep dem mudlsimes out of ma countreh', and I'm getting pretty tired of project fear painting them like that. They could be perfectly respectable people like you and me who simply disagree with the Free Movement of Persons legislation and want the UK itself to have a little more autonomy when it comes to migration.

So c'mon, let's argue with a little more intellectual rigour here, like I know you're capable of.

They could be perfectly respectable people like you and me who simply disagree with the Free Movement of Persons legislation and want the UK itself to have a little more autonomy when it comes to migration.

The UK already isn't in the Schengen which is already a disagreement with Free Movement, whilst the UK has simultaneously cut ties with Commonwealth countries such as Malaysia (visas required, scholarahips that once existed being revoked, etc).

While the UK has being banging on about breaking off and thriving in the free market, it's repealed many intra-national agreements at the same time that would've promoted good relations and business.

It seems to me that the UK just wants to be isolated... typically a British social characteristic. Maybe they should vote drunk instead.
