Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush announced Tuesday that he will "actively explore" the possibility of a presidential run in 2016.Bush, the brother of former President George W. Bush and the son of President George H.W. Bush, announced in a Facebook post that he decided to take the step after spending Thanksgiving with his family."As a result of these conversations and thoughtful consideration of the kind of strong leadership I think America needs, I have decided to actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States," he wrote.Bush also said that he will establish a leadership PAC -- a political fundraising organization -- in January."The PAC's purpose will be to support leaders, ideas and policies that will expand opportunity and prosperity for all Americans," he said. The preliminary move gives Bush the ability to raise money to dole out to other candidates, although it doesn't herald a formal candidacy just yet. In past cycles, a handful of candidates - like Republican Haley Barbour and Democrat Evan Bayh -- have made similar moves but ultimately decided not to mount a full-blown bid.But the announcement will signal to donors that he's getting more serious about a run, which is likely to put pressure on other Republicans jockeying for position. His presidential pedigree and experience leading a large and diverse state has made him a favorite of GOP establishment heavyweights. But some conservatives take issue with Bush's previous positions on immigration policy and the Common Core education standards.A November NBC/WSJ poll found that Bush is viewed positively by 26 percent of those surveyed, while 33 percent view him negatively.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA. FUCKING LET HIM RUN.Whether it be him, Michell Bachmann, Rubio or hell Ted Cruz again, they would get throttled on National TV by Hillary, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders (if that old fart actually runs)We just had another Bush in office nearly 8 years ago, and it was one of America's worst times. Americans aren't holding their breath for a third Bush to waddle into the office and make an idiot out of himself, and us.
Rubio all day

Glad you have that crystal ball handy, or there's gonna be egg on your face in a couple of years. What makes you so sure that a Democrat won't win the Presidency in 2016? Is it because Republicans took the Senate and House this year thanks to idiotic apathetic Dems?
Republicans are anti-gay, anti-women, anti-minority, anti-poor people, anti-immigrant, and anti-nonchristian.

Is it because Republicans took the Senate and House this year thanks to idiotic apathetic Dems? It's quite the opposite, actually. Republicans have zero chance to win the White House in 2016.You can't win on a platform that alienates a majority of the country. Republicans are anti-gay, anti-women, anti-minority, anti-poor people, anti-immigrant, and anti-nonchristian. State elections, yeah, it's possible and we saw it. White House? Nope.

...is this bizarro Meta day or something?
Quote from: Mad Max on December 16, 2014, 12:57:46 PM...is this bizarro Meta day or something?I'm not saying I necessarily agree with those labels. I'm just saying most of them in some fashion are applicable on some level to the Democrats. Indeed, even your own labels could be questioned.
There aren't an overwhelming number of Democratic leaders who are anti-Israel, anti-America, anti-religion. You can't win if you aren't a Christian in the US. I doubt I'll see a Jewish or Muslim president in my lifetime, much less an atheist. I don't know a single politician who is anti-America...

People in the GOP are trying to fight the things you've listed, which is one of the reasons I like Rubio. However, depending on who you're talking to, the negatives of the party may be outweighed by the negatives of the other party. I'm not at all saying your list is non-applicable, or that mine is more applicable, merely the problems you list might be inconsequential by the time of an election.
I hope, if he runs in the GOP primaries, Rubio pulls it through.
I'm welcome to explain why if you like.
Quote from: IcyWind on December 16, 2014, 04:08:00 PMI'm welcome to explain why if you like.Sure, had the election dates been a bit different, we probably would've studied the invisibles in more detail in my politics class but unfortunately I haven't >.> On a piece of work where I hate to collate the views of potential runners, though, Rubio struck me as a rather nice chap. Why won't he succeed?
Quote from: IcyWind on December 16, 2014, 04:16:00 PMWell, that's depressing. Although, how come Ron Paul didn't pull through with his conservative credentials? He criticised Reagan for his budget deficits - now that's pretty fucking conservative. Or did his foreign policy ideas shut him out of the opportunity?
Because Ron Paul's views, in general, only catered to a very minor, extremely hardcore, group.
