Essentially say he is in to kick off the Invisible 2016 Primary

Quote
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush announced Tuesday that he will "actively explore" the possibility of a presidential run in 2016.

Bush, the brother of former President George W. Bush and the son of President George H.W. Bush, announced in a Facebook post that he decided to take the step after spending Thanksgiving with his family.

"As a result of these conversations and thoughtful consideration of the kind of strong leadership I think America needs, I have decided to actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States," he wrote.

Bush also said that he will establish a leadership PAC -- a political fundraising organization -- in January.

"The PAC's purpose will be to support leaders, ideas and policies that will expand opportunity and prosperity for all Americans," he said.

The preliminary move gives Bush the ability to raise money to dole out to other candidates, although it doesn't herald a formal candidacy just yet. In past cycles, a handful of candidates - like Republican Haley Barbour and Democrat Evan Bayh -- have made similar moves but ultimately decided not to mount a full-blown bid.

But the announcement will signal to donors that he's getting more serious about a run, which is likely to put pressure on other Republicans jockeying for position.

His presidential pedigree and experience leading a large and diverse state has made him a favorite of GOP establishment heavyweights. But some conservatives take issue with Bush's previous positions on immigration policy and the Common Core education standards.

A November NBC/WSJ poll found that Bush is viewed positively by 26 percent of those surveyed, while 33 percent view him negatively.

Bush has kicked off the training wheels - expect more people to begin announcing before January.

Just reading this and being reminded of how US elections and politics are basically bought is pretty disgusting.

Oh you don't believe it. Considering we haven't even hit 2015 and there's already people beginning the steps to fundraise for an election two years away is a joke.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA.  FUCKING LET HIM RUN.

Whether it be him, Michell Bachmann, Rubio or hell Ted Cruz again, they would get throttled on National TV by Hillary, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders (if that old fart actually runs)

We just had another Bush in office nearly 8 years ago, and it was one of America's worst times.  Americans aren't holding their breath for a third Bush to waddle into the office and make an idiot out of himself, and us.

Zero chance?  Glad you have that crystal ball handy, or there's gonna be egg on your face in a couple of years.

What makes you so sure that a Democrat won't win the Presidency in 2016?  Is it because Republicans took the Senate and House this year thanks to idiotic apathetic Dems?

I honestly feel bad for Jeb. I haven't followed his political career too closely, but from a cursory glance he seems much more reasonable than Bush 43, but his name is tarnished by GWB's legacy.

It's quite the opposite, actually. Republicans have zero chance to win the White House in 2016.

You can't win on a platform that alienates a majority of the country. Republicans are anti-gay, anti-women, anti-minority, anti-poor people, anti-immigrant, and anti-nonchristian.

State elections, yeah, it's possible and we saw it. White House? Nope.

Each side has its bad and it's good; anybody can come up with a list of issues.

Especially when John McCain was calling for Iran to be bombed back into the Stone Age (because that'd solve fucking everything), and Romney was...well, his 45% comment blasted his foot off like a shotgun blast.

We saw this happen in 2010, the results will be the same:  Republicans get a couple years to fuck themselves over, and a Dem comes in to slap them back down.

I'm not saying I necessarily agree with those labels. I'm just saying most of them in some fashion are applicable on some level to the Democrats.

Indeed, even your own labels could be questioned.

Presidential elections don't mean shit. Democrat president, Republican president, it doesn't fucking matter. It'll be four more years of the same no matter who is elected.

While I don't disagree that there are a few Dems that fall into some of those catagories, the things I listed are something that many more Republican candidates identify with. Some of those things are even written into their platform.

There aren't an overwhelming number of Democratic leaders who are anti-Israel, anti-America, anti-religion. You can't win if you aren't a Christian in the US. I doubt I'll see a Jewish or Muslim president in my lifetime, much less an atheist. I don't know a single politician who is anti-America...

Oh, I know, I'm just saying you can always list an series of problems with a platform or a party, but it's integrity is always suspect. People in the GOP are trying to fight the things you've listed, which is one of the reasons I like Rubio.

However, depending on who you're talking to, the negatives of the party may be outweighed by the negatives of the other party. I'm not at all saying your list is non-applicable, or that mine is more applicable, merely the problems you list might be inconsequential by the time of an election.

Rubio's only issue was immigration. That's it. His presidential aspirations are DOA. You're better off liking someone like Rand Paul if you don't want to be perpetually disappointed.

Now, pessimism aside, Rand Paul is the Republicans' only hope for the white house. And he'll need to soften up on a lot of issues.

Sure, had the election dates been a bit different, we probably would've studied the invisibles in more detail in my politics class but unfortunately I haven't >.>

On a piece of work where I hate to collate the views of potential runners, though, Rubio struck me as a rather nice chap. Why won't he succeed?

Primaries in the United States, especially Presidential, tend to run more conservative (or liberal) than the general elections. When you are running against people in the same party for party votes and donor support, they want to see why you stand out from the pack - this, generally, forces candidates to swing further right or left than they would in a general.

Rubio is a moderate Republican - in a primary that requires one to swing conservative, he's going to be clobbered by critics for his support of immigration reform (namely), and other moderate proposals he has backed. He also lacks name recognition that Ted Cruz/Rand Paul/Chris Christie do have.

If anything, and he does run, he's going to be out by Super Tuesday.

Well, that's depressing.

Although, how come Ron Paul didn't pull through with his conservative credentials? He criticised Reagan for his budget deficits - now that's pretty fucking conservative. Or did his foreign policy ideas shut him out of the opportunity?

Because Ron Paul's views, in general, only catered to a very minor, extremely hardcore, group.

Rand's views, while Conservative, are not nearly as divisive as his father's. He'll have a strong chance in the primaries - however when it comes to the general elections in the fall, he's going to struggle if he gets the nomination.

Of course - all this also depends on the invisible primary.

Well the guy's failed bid did spawn the Tea Party, I don't know if I'd characterise them as "minor" or "extremely hardcore".

Although, in saying that, Austrian economics have a very weird and very disturbing grip on the American libertarian/conservative demographics >.>

Even I find it too much.
