I feel like putting this out there because chatting to a lot of friends in retail and after experiencing stuff myself it's coming to light that certain behaviours are starting to get way past annoying. It's also becoming apparent that we're passing behaviours down to the coming generations

People who work in customer service jobs are not your darling, sweetie, love, little angel, babe, baby, honey or your lovely. You especially so not touch these people without really really bloody good reason (and the list of reasons isn't very long)

I've got to admit that the main culprits are males 60+ but I'm really starting notice a trend appearing in younger men. The most common occurrence is having a hand placed in the small of your back as you walk past on the pretence of helping my balance or your own or just hey, maybe you feel you have to steer me in the direction you want in my own bloody shop. A few girls have told me about hands a little lower, though I hadn't experienced this personally until this weekend, it happened and it's disgusting. It's really not on

So, yeah, rant over now but seriously if you see a family member doing this or a friend tell them to stop because it isn't an acceptable way to treat people and makes us never want to come from behind the counter to help those than actually need help

I literally never see this occurring, and I've worked in both retail and the fast food industry. Sure, you get asshole customers that don't give two shits about being courteous, but the "sexually aggressive troglodytes" narrative that is constantly being parroted by feminists I believe to be grossly inaccurate.

The only time I've ever seen someone make a pass was during a nightshift at Mcdonalds, where some dude commented on my friend's tits whilst trying to order a Big Mac intoxicated. Out of a full year working there, and half a year working at Asda, I've never witnessed any other incident to that accord.

I'd really like to work with these feminists and women to see what kind of "harassment" gets levied at them daily, and what they think actually constitutes as harassment, because I seriously doubt my criteria for harassment matches up to theirs.

Be that as it may, that still doesn't make it a point for feminism. The idea has been degraded by this sort of pretentious whining to the point where almost nobody actually links feminism to efforts where it's sorely needed, such as the Arab and African world.

The fact that women bear the brunt of more shitty behaviour from shitty customers in retail isn't at all consequential when you want to talk about institutionalised and widespread oppression and discrimination.

OT though, I can understand why this person might get pissed off from being directed around, though I wouldn't call that harassment in any sense of the word. It's just what some people do to make connections between people, some people don't think about, others (inc. myself), don't want an arm around them or to be generally touched by a stranger.

With that out of the way, the terms "hey Babe/Love/Darling" depend on the person. Could be just a general mannerism, or something mildly rude at the very worse, and how this would fall under some sort of feminist agenda I do not know. That said, I don't use such terms when addressing someone, so it could be, I dunno.

I worked retail for 5 years and I got all sorts of "sweety/honey/darling" from old ladies. Very handsy, too. Had an old woman shove a tip into my back pocket for taking her grocery cart out to her car, among other things.

Never saw it as invasive, since I can understand the context of someone's behavior, though if she really does feel uncomfortable from terms of endearment or physical touch, I don't really see the problem with this complaint. Don't touch other people.

Yeah, "honey" especially is an endearing term. I understand the concept, but a number of those words aren't really impolite.

Now getting grabby is a whole nother story; I know people who've been touched inappropriately, and it's uncalled for. Thankfully it isn't a rampant problem and is limited to minor incidents.

That was a fun debate, one in which she ended up deleting the post and removing me after I proved her idiocy to the world.
