I'm bretty sure that the scientific consensus is clear. Nothing isn't a thing. It's like cold. Cold's not a thing, it's just heat not being there.

I don't really understand what you mean by this, black holes have a lot of mystery surrounding them but they're very much so "Things," they don't come close to "Nothing" at all.

I meant "close as" to true nothing in the sense is they're in the vacuum of space and have no light either.

Of course they are something, they have an astounding gravitational force. But that's my point, true nothingness is impossible. If you were able to have a thick lead box containing a vacuum, truly devoid of any particles at all there would still be the forces of gravity acting within, and that can't be removed or blocked off.

Well, that's just playing semantic word games. Our language isn't really suited for this discussion, but nonetheless, I think you know what he meant.

I mean, a lot of aspects of this topic boil down to semantics, and one person's definition of "Something" might not really conform to that of somebody else. Like, I'm sure the average person would classify empty space as "Nothing," despite, in the quantum sense, it certainly isn't. If it can be described, then it has some form of properties, and therefore I consider it "Something."

To me, the question isn't really one that makes any sense. Even if you get a blank canvas with no fields of gravitation, electromagnetism, the strong or weak force, or anything to "Excite" (In the quantum sense), it's still... A blank canvas that can be described. It just doesn't make any sense to ask if "Nothing" exists, because then it doesn't exist.

I hate sounding like a nitpicky douche, but this discussion sort of demands it.

Hell I don't even think I'm wording this correctly. It's such a weird thing to talk about.

Does this question even make sense? I get the feeling that just by asking the question you've already put limits on nothing's existence and in a way defined it as something, or something contradictory.
