A recent incident in Florida prompts discussion of responsible gun ownership, recognizing if you aren't ready to carry a weapon, emphasizing the wrong reasons and attitudes behind carrying and certain facets of gun culture, and how your rights to self defense with a firearm should be for just that, defense, and never aggression.


I really find myself agreeing with nearly everything he's said as well. I don't carry a firearm anymore. I don't want that responsibility. I don't trust myself with it. I'll simply avoid places of the city that are a little more dangerous. I don't try to put myself in any harmful situations anymore, and if I find myself near an active shooter in public, well, I'm aware of the consequences.

You can discuss the shooting or what the video addresses, it's all related to the legal rights of firearm ownership and self defense.

Side discussion: Should disobeying a 911 dispatcher be a crime or give legal means to elevate charges that may be brought against an individual who does not comply and causes further harm because of it?

The other problem is that lets say you shoot someone and there's no witnesses near by. The only thing the authorities know is that their is either someone in critical condition at the hospital or is dead and they know you were the shooter. Even though you are innocent you can fuck your self up by talking and not having a lawyer. If you need to carry a gun to feel safe like you said you should avoid those ares and to me you also should see help since you're dangerously  paranoid. I'm not against concealed carry and I doubt I ever will be. However, gun owners need to stop thinking they're John fucking Wayne and get rid of any hero fantasies or stop wishing they have a chance to utilize their firearms if they so chose to carry.

Um, maybe I'm missing something but following a guy home in your car and parking up outside his driveway then approaching him doesn't exactly scream 'this person has good, safe intentions'. From the sounds of it he probably didn't need to get shot but even so, I thought 'Get off my lawn' was reasonable grounds in murika.

Florida's got pretty broad Stand Your Ground laws, yeah, but I can't say I'm really familiar with anything but my own state's doctrine.
But still, in a case like this, it just reeks of someone not being responsible  and just doing something because they can rather than asking if they should. You're gonna kill a guy over some road rage? That's some serious shit, man. Go inside your house, if he follows or breaks in, then yes, consider him a dangerous threat and neutralize said threat with force.

Yeah it certainly was flat out retarded, it would have depended a little on the situation but I mean I could see how you'd be in defence mode if someone was following you home and then tries to accost you on your own property <.<
