Are unions really necessary anymore?
Quote from: Fagcicle on September 14, 2015, 07:55:32 PMAre unions really necessary anymore?Yes.
Why?
unions are pointless now and actually cause problems instead of fixing them
Quote from: Fagcicle on September 14, 2015, 07:58:13 PMWhy?Why are jobs necessary?
Unions wouldn't need to exist if businesses didn't treat their employees like dirt.

Don't answer my question with another. You think that unions are still necessary, why do you think that?

You think that unions are still necessary, why do you think that?I wasn't answering your questionβI was implying that you might as well be asking yourself that question.Having institutions around to set standards for how workers are treated sounds like a pretty good idea to me.Though, it's not that I think labor unions are necessary as much as I don't think they are unnecessary.Do you think unions are unnecessary?
Thinking union bosses care any more about workers than the employers is intensely naive.
Quote from: Executioner Sigma on September 14, 2015, 08:08:20 PMThinking union bosses care any more about workers than the employers is intensely naive.Except they objectively do. Ever met Lee Saunders? One of the most respectable and honest people in the world, and he's the president of one of the biggest US unions. Employers care only about money, on the other hand.

Please try and make that argument. Please do it.

You know there are a lot of decent employers, right? Sectors which tend to have low employee satisfaction tend to have exceptionally high rates of turnover precisely because they are entry-level jobs. You start moving up the pay gradient and your employer is probably going to be bending over kissing your ass and begging you to stay.
