Arguably NAFTA was the start of American companies race to offshore much of thier non/semiskilled workforce to cheaper countries. Trump has set NAFTA in his sights for renegotiation or outright ending.

Say he does. Will it bring the jobs home?

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
It might curb future plans but I don't see a  mass resurgence of say, the auto industry clamoring to come back to America unless some pretty heavy tariffs get thrown up. Ford isn't going to abandon its new Mexico plants that it invested in only recently.

In a super simplified way, I'd imagine its gonna be like patching a radiator hose but not refilling the rad afterwards.

I'm sure Meta will answer this better than anyone but I would have thought those kinds of jobs left the US because of an increase in individual wealth rather than free trade, even if it was abolished it'll still be cheaper to have some third world dude do it than an American who wants to live in a quiet suburb, with a nice car, send their kids to expensive universities, A la the white picket fence.

Maybe if it wasn't for NAFTA the transition off shore would been slower but it would have happened eventually anyway. The only thing the government can do is help facilitate people into other sectors.
