The idea of being isolated if you have enough money to live the rest of your days alone is not a bad thing. Anyone who says otherwise needs to throw away their copy of The Leviathan; it was written by an Authoritarian hack who only saw people as either cattle or wolves. You are NOT obligated to care for your neighbor and living as detached from society as possible gives you a freedom you'll never get from them. And saying you have to forgo the currency of the nearest society as well is intentionally being unfair and trying to punish the person for not conforming with your social rules. Boohoo, a person found a way to live on their own and not have to deal with the bullshit of contributing to whatever the nearest town wants, get over it. Under that logic, foreigners and tourists shouldn't be allowed to use the local currency either because they're also not paying taxes.

At first, the idea of a central absolute government makes sense because of things such as civil war and unrest since that's the point in having one. However the book goes on to say that man in inherently violent against himself, which is absolute bullshit. And says we HAVE to be part of the social contract to keep us from killing each other; which is once again, bullshit. When we went over the book back when I was still in college, my professor contrasted Leviathan with a book written by another individual I think a century later, I can't remember the name of it at the moment but if I do I'll mention it, but it basically was the exact opposite of Hobbe's line of thinking. The only reason you think this is true is because you live in a society which has third-party institutions to enforce order. A society where the social contract between individuals already exists and is enforced. Lacking those institutions, yes, we are a pretty violent species. Not only because apes are naturally violent, but because we would have to be in order to defend ourselves, our properties and our reputations.
Violent against ourselves though? He lived during civil unrest yes, but there was a government in place, and he wasn't around thousands of years beforehand to see if out tribal primitive selves were killing each other sadistically. We were small wandering groups that would hunt just to survive, attacking your own people would be counterproductive.
People moved to Greenland because they wanted to escape tyranny from Europe.
