I'm not surprised that Americans don't fight back

For most of our recent history, the last 50 years or so, there's been a stirring distrust of the government - at some times more than others. But recently it seems we've become complacent with government over-stepping its bounds, spying on us, waging wars based on questionable grounds, etc.

We tried to fight back in the late 60's and early 70's. Look at what happened at Kent State - the national guard opened fire on hundreds of protesting students [within the students' constitutional rights, mind you] and killed four.

After Kent State, we haven't really seen protests of the same magnitude from the American people. People don't protest on university campuses anymore, because they get pepper sprayed while sitting in a circle. People don't march in Washington DC anymore because police will arrest, beat, and/or kill them. The American people have no recourse against the government anymore, and I don't blame them for not trying anymore.

I don't think it will happen soon, but the middle class is growing smaller and smaller.

I've said for a while now that I think if things continue the way they are, in the next 20 or so years we'll have a revolution. Be it political, violent, protest, etc.

Actually it's probably because no government will do the job right.

Take a look at the elections. No matter who you pick, they're going to be shit. With government, it's always a case of how long everybody's poster child that they voted in will go before fuck up.

All of them do it. They have a good stance somewhere else, and a shit stance somewhere else.

Injury and death don't mean anything to people who aren't afraid of it, or to defend their ideals. Look at extremists. It's hard to fight an enemy who is willing to strap a bomb to themselves and press the trigger when called on, because you're not fighting people anymore, you're fighting an ideal that's practically made manifest.

But, there's no government today that can do it right. It's not worth fighting for when you'd literally have to rip apart our current society from the ground up and start over again.
