How rare do you think intelligent life is in space?

If You Are A False Don't Entry
I think about how so many stars are actually galaxies. How there's billions of stars in every galaxie and there's countless galaxies. We're just one planet around one star. I find it pretty hard to believe that there isn't aliens out there, but what are the chances that there's intelligent life that surpasses us, which is as advanced as the sci fi movies make it out to be?

like way rarer than that

Even life is like a shitload rarer than that

Billions of stars (per galaxy)+Incomprehensible number of galaxies+Unknown number of universes=A lot of life

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.

personally i think its booming with it, but given the astronomical distances, it seems rare. planets are something we cant observe directly, there may be some primal life on it that hasnt evolved to something like how we think. there could also be single cell life and stuff, i mean, anything can live anywhere given the necessities it needs and go on from there in millions of years through evolution.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
Life? No idea.

Intelligent life? Ultra rare.

If it can happen on Earth then it can happen on any rocky planet that is in a reasonable distance from its local star and contains water.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
To find a planet with actual life is EXTREMELY rare, finding a habitable planet that has life is the best we can do right now. To find INTELLIGENT life is a different story.
Our current radio waves sent out probably won't be finding anything in our lifetimes, maybe in our children/grandchildren but not us.

I haven't seen an alien, and there's no real evidence that they exist, so it would be silly to assume that they do just because "muh expanding univese". In the same way that it would be silly to assume that there's a god or something.

There's philosophical quandaries such as the Fermi paradox, as well, that I've yet to see an adequate solution for.

It doesn't seem like that's actually based in logic. Rather, it seems like you pass off probability as a non-factor (trivializing universal diversity by saying "muh expanding universe" makes you look like a pretty massive dumbass). Anyway here's something on the fermi paradox that might shed some light on it for you.

Seen it already. Not convinced, sorry.

Probability isn't a factor at all. You're literally saying, "but there's GOTTA be!"

Which makes YOU look like a pretty massive dumbass.

I'm not saying anything. I'm just here to provide information and call you out for poor rationale. You have no idea whether or not I believe aliens do exist (or my belief re: the probability of such a thing) because I haven't deigned to say such a thing. Don't put words in my mouth (text box?) kiddo.

...Uh. No. I didn't.

We're talking about the Fermi paradox, because I claim that there is no solution to it--therefore, I don't believe in fucking aliens. Because I'm a rational person who doesn't just believe in things with no evidence. Like you.

You post a dumbfuck article that's supposed to "shed some light" on the subject, when it literally says that it doesn't have an answer. I'm not looking for "possible explanations", cunt. That doesn't interest me one iota. I want a solution.

Saying that your article sucks, because it does, isn't "deflecting the topic of conversation".

Stay in school.

One of those things is omnipresent with no examples, the other can have as little broadcastablity as we do and has one example of how it can come about.

It's like you have a country omelet sitting in your fridge, but you choose to believe there are absolutely no other fridges that have country omelets in them, because you haven't looked in those fridges.

It's distinctly different from thinking that absolutely no fridges have Old Spice Bodywash Soup in them. Because you aren't even sure if there is such a thing as Old Spice Bodywash Soup.

Not necessarily. Who the fuck says a god has to be omnipresent? That's stupid.

Piss poor analogy. We can glean, based on the fact that omelets are commonly produced foods, that there are all sorts of omelettes in people's fridges.

We can't assume that there are aliens just because "MUH UNIVERSE IS SO BIG!!!!!"

And that's ALL you have to go by.

Alright I've removed a couple of posts ITT, I'm not gonna sit here and edit each and every little petty jibe at each other over this because the posts are littered with them as equally as they are with discussion points.

If we could discuss the topic at hand without just resorting to dumbass/jackass/eejit flinging that'd be really appreciated.

Or we can continue flaming and I'll start slapping folks.

Not many fridges have country omelets in them actually compared to those that don't, but the point is that :
1.you have one,
2.you know what materials are needed to make it,
3.you know that other places have those resources to make their own country omelets.

Thus you have to recognize that they could possibly make omelets and put them in their fridges too. You don't have to know if they did or did not, the point is that you cannot say with certainty that they did not.
