I doubt it. On the scale of things, the universe is still young. The players on the board are still in the early game. It may be possible, but the likelyhood and chances of having

A) A race that can travel the space between stars with ease

and

B) Have them bump into our little corner of space

Are astronomically low. Even the signals we've been broadcasting ever since we've discovered radio waves haven't traveled very far on the scale of things.

If aliens have the ability to contact us we'd be dead, I think. Unless the aliens we encountered have evolved in unimaginable ways that make them very wise and philosophical.

Otherwise I'm pretty sure they'll just act like Europeans did when they found the New World.

Nobody is entirely sure what that was. Could have been an as of yet undiscovered astrophysical phenomenon.

It seems highly unlikely. Sure there's life out there in space somewhere, but it sure ain't been around this back-end part of space, and I find it even further unlikely that given the timescale we're working with that extraterrestrial life has gone much further than exploring their own "local" area.

And even if this were true, how would they know? Even if there monitoring & communication equipment were capable of travelling at the speed of light, it would still take an awful fuckton of time for them to know, and by the time they get here we're already gone.

It's extremely unlikely for it to have been anything natural. We know the system where it originated from and there aren't any exploding stars or black holes, in fact the system is fairly stable.

I just find that jumping to the conclusion that it's an intelligent civilization merely because we can't explain it a tad too big of a leap. Call me a skeptic.

I'm not big on physics.

I guess you could say I am but only in relation to the rest of the forum. There are hardly any science heads on the forum save for a small few who don't discuss things enough.

My interests aren't nearly constant enough to allow me to partake, regardless. I remember being interested in atomic chemistry, and I was pretty good at it, a few years ago in school. Same with astrophysics.

To the uninitiated, science doesn't offer many avenues of discussion.

Maybe it is the extra terrestrial species, but now they're considered humans. I believe that humans are behind smart things, and that there surely has to be some kind of unite league of smart people, or something along those lines.
