This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.

Despite claims that the US would banish Britain to the “back of the queue” if it dared to leave the European Union, Congress is already considering measures to boost trade with the UK.

A bill to lock down current trading arrangements, and fire the starting gun on a bilateral deal, was introduced to the US Senate yesterday.

The United Kingdom Trade Continuity Act mandates the US to keep trading on exactly the same terms after Britain leaves the EU.

I mean first it has to survive the gridlock and autism of the yank congress, but still, this is good.

Man, even the Remainers here in the states are trying to hold UK's independence at gunpoint.

Congress loves trade deals tho, so that's a good sign.

Did anyone seriously think that the US wouldn't want to continue with the normal flow of trade between our two countries if the UK pulled out of the EU? The UK is one of the closest allies and best trading partners the US has.

The US (minus Obama) has done a decent job staying neutral on the whole thing really. Like you said, they just want to still maintain close ties with the UK.

I'm curious if it will actually make it through Congress before the August recess - if it doesn't, it will be tabled until after November

Because giving certain countries in the EU even more of a reason to be difficult with us during trade negotiations is a stellar idea. Coming out against the EU would be trade negotiation suicide for Obama.
