Not surprising. The referendum wasn't legally binding.

Remoaners shouldn't get their hopes up though. Majority of MPs wanted to stay in the EU true, but it'd be political suicide to throw most of their constituents under the bus.

Now so long as the ruling isn't appealed and repealed by the government (which they intend to do), they're going to have to announce their Brexit plans to MP's, which inevitably means we'll find out how it's going. I mean, the House of Commons/Lords can't vote on something they don't know how it's going to happen, and if something about the terms don't seem acceptable, the government risk overturning the referendum.

Brexit is still going to happen much to my disappointment, but at least now it'll have a bit more transparency and oversight. If anything, this seems better for Brexit in general, seeing as the MP's discussion about that petition a few months back was unilateral about honouring the people's democratic vote to leave.

...unless, y'know, MP's go postal and overturn it. Then everyone will be pissed off and even if we ended up staying, the EU won't see the UK in any favourable light for some time.

Oh! And there's always the two wildcards,  Scottish Independence and Irish Re-Unification.

I tried to ignore it but the jurist in me won't allow it. Rulings are never repealed (and especially not by the government, but by the Courts). They're overturned, reversed, vacated or set aside, but not repealed. Laws, acts and decrees are repealed, but not rulings.

Fair enough, I couldn't think of a better word at the time.
