Forgive me, but why does a leader need to have political experience to "matter"? Isn't the leader of the country meant to represent the people and their values, while making decisions that reflect that?

Because as nice of an ideal that this is, the office of the Presidency, the state of national politics and global affairs as a whole makes this extremely difficult to accomplish - it's kind of why we only see Presidents that graduate with college degrees (namely with law degrees) these days. Although it would be nice to elect someone who represents the people as a whole and has never engaged in politics, they would drown in the duties and requirements that a President is required to handle.

I'd vote for Clinton over Sanders, mainly because I know Sanders would never get anything done in office with how far left his ideas are. Though they are appealing at face value, when you sit and think about it you realize it'll be 8 more years of Obama, if not worse in terms of how they government gets anything done.

At least Hillary is more moderate about things, though does that really matter in todays American government? The original GOP has all but officially fallen apart and has been taken over by billionaire front runners and radical conservatives.

When are we honestly getting that 3rd party? It's basically already a thing.

Surely the president has some power over the budget. Enough to make some drastic changes if need be. She is the head of the nation, after all.

But I don't know. I'm no expert. I could see a legal degree helping more than a business/economics degree depending on the extent of the President's power as far as the budget goes.
