I think just about everyone on this site could agree that the US Government has gone overboard to some degree with paranoia and over-protection/control.

That, and they have like the 2nd or 3rd largest budget in the government. They don't need all that money and if they do, then put it towards building a damn wall that will keep illegals out, not collecting every grandmother's phone calls

A wall would just be an ineffective money pit. Immigrants could just dig under it or constantly degrade it. It'd have to be maintained ect ect.

That or if you wanted to make a stone wall like the Wall of China, you'd have to hire immigrants to come and build it for you.
