OH GOOD MORE REPUBLICANS JUST WHAT WE NEEDED
Do you ever stop being partisan?
No.
It was mostly rhetorical. I already know that you're blinded by ideology.

That's not ideological, just logical. You can't do much if your economy's shit. And don't try and tell me you have no interest in economics; pretty much everybody with a political persuasion does. They're just too stupid to realise half of what they say is bullshit, but that's a function of being all too human.

But, no, I don't think economics is everything. I just enjoy the subject; it's my study area of choice. I enjoy philosophy and a bit of cosmology, too. But I really don't know why you pay so little attention that I have to sit here and spend my time correcting your ignorance.

Here's where Mr. Kasich stands on some issues for anyone that's curious

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/john-kasich-believe-candidate-stands-10-issues/
step aside rand, i have a new favorite
Does that make four of us?

I'm starting to think his chances are getting pretty strong.

don't get too excited. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are leading the polls, which says a lot (of bad things) about where most voters are. Sep7agon isn't really representative of most Americans.
Yeah I was just joking because he's at like 2% at the polls.

He's going to be the Jon Huntsman of this election. Somewhat sane guy who would appeal to moderates, but wont get any attention because the clowns are loose. The fact that Trump is leading by almost twice the percentage of the next guy (Jeb) should tell you all you need to know about the current state of the Republican electorate.

Keep in mind, we're really early for much election news. Current polls don't really mean anything. Kasich has been a big potential candidate for a while, and I think he'll gain a lot of ground.

He's for the Common Core?  Lol fuck that.

A few good points, especially in regards to rehabilitation, but then there's things like

>companies and not government regulations should protect the environment, anti-Kyoto
>cut education budgets and funding (kinda) and give more power to local schools
>pro-life and firm opponent of abortion
>anti-gay (in general, marriage, adoption)
>FOX news host on a batshit insane program
>insane christian ("it's God's job to judge if the punishment fits the crime", "bible stories are historical facts", "evidence says that the earth did not come about on its own", supporting amendment for school prayer)
>pro death penalty
>pro gun
>demanded that a professor saying 9/11 was brought on by the US got fired

Yeah... Would not vote for, even though he may have some decent economic policies in mind.

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/john-kasich-believe-candidate-stands-10-issues/

He's actually going along with the Supreme Court ruling and saying it's time to move on from Gay Marriage, and he's supportive of banning abortion after 20 weeks, with the exception of saving a mother's life.

And he also just seems to go along with his constituents.  He introduced a bill to curb collective-bargaining for public employees.  Ohio voted NO, and he moved on.  That's someone I'd like, rather than someone wasting my tax money trying to repeal Obamacare for the 48934th time.

That doesn't change anything though. He's settled down on the gay marriage issue because he knows the battle's over for now and that he can't go against the supreme court. He's still completely anti-gay and just because he's smart enough to realize there's no way he can now go up against the court directly doesn't mean that he won't jump on anti-gay measures as soon as the opportunity rises.

Props to him for realizing that hammering on the same old issues won't get him anywhere, but the fact that he's still an openly anti-gay pro-life pro-death penalty bible thumper means that he won't hesitate a moment to push those views when he gets the chance, regardless of him now stating that he's moving on from gay marriage because he knows he can't do anything against the supreme court.
You have to understand that by Republican standards him holding that position is amazing. Many are still in the gays cause hurricanes camp.

Sure, but that doesn't make him any better of a candidate. He has the basic smarts to realize there are certain things he can't or shouldn't fight / promote right now, but that's about it. This is an incredibly obvious attempt at avoiding a few issues he could never win right now while still holding the exact same views, ready to push them as soon as he gets the opportunity. Just basic politics.
Ye that's all obvious, but again by Republican standards on that issue its still a breath of fresh air. We're in the primaries right now so it certainly makes him a better candidate than Santorum, Cruz, and the like.

Compared to the Dems he's probably still behind the times on social issues, but that's kinda to be expected from a conservative. Just sayin, shitting on the first signs of progress on their part is not the most productive of choices.

Not like it'll matter. They're going to lose the general.

>companies and not government regulations should protect the environment, anti-Kyoto
America should not be part of the Kyoto treaty, and it's demonstrably more efficient to have corporations effect carbon regulations.
Quote
>cut education budgets and funding (kinda) and give more power to local schools

I'm not really sure where this is coming from, but in 2014 Ohio's education budget was the highest in history, and any previous cuts were likely part of across-the-board austerity measures to balance the state's budget.
Quote
>pro-life and firm opponent of abortion
He supports abortion before 20 weeks.
Quote
>anti-gay (in general, marriage, adoption)
This isn't true, either. A personal belief about an issue doesn't constitute a policy.
Quote
>FOX news host on a batshit insane program

From the Heartland was a bit before my time, but it seems like pretty status-quo for political commentary at the time.
Quote
>insane christian ("bible stories are historical facts", "evidence says that the earth did not come about on its own", supporting amendment for school prayer)
If that makes him insane, then so is President Obama, Mrs. and Mr. Clinton, and Bernie Sanders.
Quote
>pro death penalty
And he also thoroughly reviews each sentencing and has granted clemency to numerous inmates.
Quote
>pro gun
This is meaningless.
Quote
>demanded that a professor saying 9/11 was brought on by the US got fired
Yeah...no. The professor was anti-semitic and claimed the employees in the World Trade Center brought it on themselves, comparing them to Nazis.

He's a very experienced and successful leader, and a socially moderate Conservative that recognizes a changing public opinion and works with it. He's definitely a strong candidate.

I never claimed they weren't, but if you can show me where Obama or Sanders say that the bible is completely factual and trumps science, I'm all ears.
As far as I've seen, Kasich has never said or implied that the Bible is completely factual or trumps science; in fact the full quote that this is referring to discusses that he sees many of the stories as allegorical but that it does contain historical content. And that's true, because many of the books were written to be historical accounts and are used in conjunction with other records to develop an idea of the history of the Ancient Near East.
