Found out I'll be assigned to the E-2C Hawkeye

I graduated from my current program today and was assigned to the E-2C Hawkeye. It wasn't my first choice , but whatever. It's a pretty badass plane.

They're stationed out of Point Mugu, CA; Norfolk, VA; and Atsugi, Japan, which is what I'm hoping for.

Post about any other life changes you've got going on. I'm not sure if this fits in Serious, but I thought I'd share it with you all.

Yeah. I honestly don't know much about Hawkeyes, but eventually I'll be a Combat Information Center Officer and mission commander for whatever carrier wing I'll be assigned to later down the road.

Speaking of life changes.

My blood's slowly turning thin/pasty now. Diagnosed some time back with an early stage of leukemia. I got lucky though. It's not in my bones yet, which means I won't have to do any of the really fun song and dance like chemo or radiation therapy. I can chow down on some anti-cancer agents I can get shipped out here through my town pharmacy.

I won't say anything bad about this because I was expecting to be fully hospitalized with it in my bones.

But, instead, I got to come home. So I'm gonna build my house this year.

I use to be hugely into military aviation, and if I remember right, the radar dish is meant to detect aircraft and ships at really long distances so that any sort of tactical reaction can be properly be coordinated. I'm not sure if they can be used in weather alert systems.

Nah, it's not a weather plane. The dish is for communications and detection.
In addition to being some sort of early warning sentry, the E-2 crew is responsible for coordinating ground attack, cas, search and rescue, and potentially other joint combat operations in real time. Naval Hawkeye squadrons were immensely important in the great success of Desert Storm.

It is. Chesapeake Bay is close. It's really nice though.

Any word on where to live? I've heard avoid anywhere along the 64, and that Ghent is pretty decent.

Nothing major at the moment. Just waiting for 1 on 1 training for one EMT and one Paramedic to work together. Plan on doing that for a bit, then getting hired elsewhere, and go to medic school once I have my pre-reqs out of the way.
