His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
I've never seen why people think "gun control" means "gun ban". Guns are still available to own and use with stricter control, the difference is that it limits the possibility of them being used for malicious purpose.

Just to play devil's advocate so it doesn't turn into one big circlejerk in favour of gun control:

In order to reinforce/strengthen your point, often people present the extreme opposite end of the spectrum to try and help strengthen their arguments.

Example: "IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS COUNTRY WHY DON'T YOU MOVE TO NORTH KOREA?!"

or something retarded

I've come to realize the pro-gun argument is emotional in nature as opposed to logical and let's face it arguments rooted in emotion are shit.

I also used to think Flee was really biased cause "muh europoors don't know about muh freedumz" but he takes a very unbiased approach to the whole thing. I mean pretty much every point in his argument is backed entirely by stats and facts.
tbf, arguments in favour of gun control can be just as rooted in appeal to emotions. Media sensationalism surrounding gun related tragedies are extremely notorious for this.

I honestly don't know where I stand in regards to gun control. Both sides of the argument (when applied rationally) are equally compelling. There is no magic answer to this that doesn't come with a kernel of nuance.

This post makes me incredibly happy. I've only recently started to look into the gun violence issue, and this posts provides a ton of good resources backing up what I heavily suspected to be the right side of the debate.

Another interesting article I've been reading:

TL:DR:

-Posits that gun ownership increases as crime increases. Not the other way around.

-People using guns for self defense are less likely to lose property or be injured.

-Criminals are less likely to victimize someone if they are aware that potential victim owns a gun.

-Crime rates on the macro level have been shown to substantially drop after publicized instances of victims arming themselves.

-43% of UK burglaries took place while the residents were present. Less than 9% of US burglaries take place when residents are present.

Not sure if anyone wants to address this to aid the discourse.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
extraordinary circumstances
What would constitute such a circumstance so as to make gun ownership acceptable?

-43% of UK burglaries took place while the residents were present. Less than 9% of US burglaries take place when residents are present.
But is this because gun ownership deters burglaries, or do burglaries happen in the US at greater rate comparatively to the UK? Both of those could affect the statistic.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
I see Das liking posts, reading this thread and posting in other threads. If you read this, you were one of the people I was hoping to get a response from, Das. Curious how you feel about this.
Gun control is such a self-conflicting topic with many of my ideals and political motivations.
It has to happen at the federal level. It absolutely must for anything to be effective. I see this, I recognize this, and I think I can compromise my hatred for federal powers to allow reasonable gun control measures to be enacted.

What are reasonable measures? Now this is a position that I fluctuate on, but usually criminal background checks and psych history I agree should be looked at. People will lose their private pilot's medical just for having a coronary surgery at sometime in their life. If you have a history of clinical depression, or mania, or other issues, you probably shouldn't be handed a firearm. The same should apply for those with violent criminal history, and in some places, it does. I have an uncle who was denied a handgun purchase because of (what I believe were) assault charges nearly 20 years ago. Despite it's redneck reputation, Pennsylvania actually has a fairly decent system in place. Straw purchasing remains a huge problem though.
Purchase permits or licenses or whatever you want to call them, I can be okay with. A full registry is something that I don't like the idea of, especially when a newspaper can put in an information request to the government and then publish that list. Not cool.
Mandatory firearms safety courses to get a purchasing license would be okay by me. Guns are a big fucking responsibility.

What is not reasonable or personally acceptable to me:
Magazine restrictions
"Assault weapon" bans
short barrel rifles being an NFA firearm
Additional tax stamps to purchase or transfer a classII/III firearm or suppressor
National firearms registry
City ordinances that restrict carry beyond state law
Gun free zones
Defensive ammunition bans (see NJ state law)

You should know by now that a licensing system IS a registry, just de facto instead of explicit.

And a de facto registry, just like any registry will undoubtedly enable in confiscation.

This is unacceptable.

I'm totally open to making it more difficult to obtain a weapon for malicious purposes, but I cannot and will not accept any measure that increases a government's, state or federal, capacity to confiscate. So far, all of the measures I've seen proposed do this.

The second amendment has a very clear purpose (if you have a basic understanding of English grammar), and there's no real point in having it around if Uncle Sam knows exactly where the people are keeping the means of force.
Confiscation won't ever happen.
The NRA will organize an armed revolt full of crazy right-wingers with TNP patches on their multicam jackets before that happens.

Confiscation is inevitable within the century if we can't stop this growing trend of European-style cuckoldry in the politically-overpowered urban centers. The cities will drag real America down with them if things don't turn around.

Everything they do is basically criminal anyway.

Everything any government institution does is criminal by the very standards of government

the notion of crime itself is absurd.
Door, bro, my ideal government exists solely to pave roads and provide national defense, but that's just no feasible in this world.
