The St. Louis County executive declared a state of emergency here on Monday as officials and activists sought to regain control of the volatile streets after plainclothes police officers shot and critically wounded an 18-year-old black man who they said was firing on them late the night before.

The police said the man, Tyrone Harris Jr., was among two groups of young people who exchanged gunfire near peaceful protests late Sunday on the first anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager who was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson. Prosecutors on Monday charged Mr. Harris, of the St. Louis suburb Northwoods, with 10 counts, including four of felony assault on a law enforcement officer.

You don't get it. We're past what he did. The problem we have is how the police react damn near every time we protest.

Also ask yourself why these shooting incidents always happen to minorities.

White people are still too arrogant and dumb to get why black people do what they do?
Who cares what this black kid did? The fact is that unarmed black people get shot on a regular basis. And this isn't even new, police harassment has been going on in the black community since we dropped the cotton sacks. This is why we riot, because we're tired of white people thinking they can do whatever and get away with it. It's gotten to the point where rioting and fighting is the only thing that grabs white peoples attention. We've been peaceful too long, and clearly that doesn't work.

I don't think anyone here with the exception of PSU genuinely thinks systemic discrimination within the police against the black population went away.

Most of our disdain, however, stems from these activists and apologists trying to excuse/justify anti-social behaviour (the dude shot at a cop for fuck sake like, what did he expect) simply on the basis that they're black. These people like Jesse Jackson etc unintentionally or not, are partially fuelling these riots and giving people a justification to steal/wreck the community.

That guy is a dumb ass by anyone's standards so I just ignore what he says.

Anyway, I'll agree with you on the basis of this situation in which the facts came out about him shooting at the cop. That's when we as black people should have probably took a step back, but you have to understand a lot of information was missing in the beginning when the riots kicked off, and I'd say a lot of what's happening now is due more to momentum of the chaos as opposed to the actual shooting. But we also have to look at the fact that a lot of black people are angry because brown isn't the first, and probably won't be the last black person to get shot. I swear I keep reading headlines of a cop shooting niggas. To a lot of whites it's just another nigga off the earth but it's tragic to us.
