Both sides blow this debate way out of proportion. Gun crime has been steadily decreasing, and the differences between Europe and America are largely cultural as opposed to political. Nothing is wrong with either side.

In saying that, people who propose to outlaw things like assault weapons and rifles really don't know what they're talking about.

Pretty sure the 2nd Amendment was speaking to townships. The Continental Army wasn't everywhere, and you had the hostile British to the north and the Spaniards to the south. It would be in the best interest of the nation for each town to have a militia that can mobilize quickly to deal with any foreign (or domestic) threats. "Well-regulated" meaning that they are trained and disciplined in the use of firearms and guerrilla tactics.

The 2nd Amendment was poorly written, as evidenced by the fact that no one can agree what it means.

guns exist for one purpose: to kill. obviously we dont want everyone to have access to something that can kill another person with little to no effort

i mean, thats how my naive, idealistic mind sees it. i know that real world application and context is everything with regards to this argument- we do need gun ownership, because there will always be bad people who use guns to hurt others and we need to be on an even playing field with them. that being said, im still very unnerved and disconcerted by the idea that we have a fundamental right to own murder weapons.

except anyone with a basic grasp of the English language can tell that it refers to an individual's right to keep and bear arms, not a specific group.

The militia bit is an acknowledgement that an armed populace is essential for a militia (which is an organized group of people using weapons they personally own), to exist.

There is nothing vague or unclear about it, this "not clear enough" bullshit was conceived and spread by the left for the sole purpose of agenda-pushing.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with an armed populace, but there IS a problem when you can buy guns like they're fucking candy, and almost anyone can buy a gun.

There NEEDS to be some form of regulation to prevent guns getting into the hands of the wrong people.
