Uh-oh, I kinda agree with Midget here.
People thinking that immigrants should be ashamed of themselves and that its disrespectful not to speak english when America was founded by immigrants of many languages.
Uh-oh, I kinda agree with Midget here.I mean, I wouldn't move to a foreign country unless I knew the bare basics of their language... That's just common courtesy. What right do I have to impose my culture and my language onto another country?...I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people coming in to have a grasp of English.

Now everyone but the Amish speak English. One common language is essential for the well being of any nation or community, not only for a universal and understood means of communication, but as a unifying symbol as well.
How would you even measure if someone doesn't speak the language well enough? Seems like a waste of resources and money to punish someone for something inconsequential.
Quote from: Thunder on September 05, 2015, 09:45:21 PMWhat is making English the official language going to accomplish? No really? Anyone can still speak whatever language they feel like.Nobody cares what language you speak within your household or amongst your peers, but when you go to a grocery store and start speaking to the clerk in Korean, that's going to piss people off. (Yes, I've actually had that happen before.) I honestly believe that we should make all immigrants/tourists take a basic language test before letting them come here. Same goes for every other country. I would never go to Germany if I didn't at least have a basic understanding of German. Going to a country and not speaking the native language is not only disrespectful to it's people, but also disrespectful to its history and culture.

English is already the primary language of America. Not the federally official language, but it's tacitly the same.

OT: Government should remove multilingual translations from documents, but that's about it.
