Is there any real example of other white supremacists or murderers using these people as martyrs though? He won't be executed for at least a decade (though he probably won't appeal, since he made no attempt to defend against the death penalty), and he'll probably be long forgotten until it pops back up in the news around that date.

And even then, should the external consequences (like the subjective determination that he'll be a martyr for some other hate group) even factor into a supposed objective legal sentance?

You don't really need to; the only thing that would be unreasonable would be believing the punishment is disproportionate.

A more apt and suitable punishment would be tossing him in a prison with a bunch of Tyrone's until his arsehole is capable of whistling.

He showed no remorse, says he still believes it was right, and made no attempt to defend against the death penalty. I'd be surprised if he survives until his execution date.

There were some murders in my province this year. A kid shot up some other kids at school. News outlets in my province did something interesting. They didn't share the name of the shooter, nor the family. News reported the events and the town it took place in, but not once was a name ever mentioned.

You martyr people when you name them.

Take meta's approach. One gun, one bullet, right in the back of the head, done and over with. Take the media approach my province used. Report the incident, but use no name.

i didnt originally respond to the second part of your post because i dont consider the point you made to be invalid. they dont need martyrs to motivate them, but that's not what i was saying- the idea is that a cause can be made stronger with a martyr, even if the change is subtle. if you dont consider that to be a big enough issue to waive the death penalty, so be it. im not trying to evangelize my belief that he should be kept alive and made to labor. i didnt come in here looking to argue with people over whether we should kill this piece of shit or make him work.
