The airstrike targeted ISIS military equipment, communications centers, vehicles and ammunition, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said, as part of pinpoint strikes against ISIS ground targets.

How do you guys feel about this? Honestly I'm glad Russia is taking care of it. The more people the better, and another powerful country besides the US to fuck up the Middle East even more.

I saw a 60 Minutes interview with PUTIN and he laughed when asked if Russia was trying to be a super power and basically said he finds it odd how every single move Russia does is portrayed as having ultra deep ulterior motive behind it.

While I'm not saying Russia is innocent of things, I think he brought up a good point, because CNN and other media sites aren't shutting up that they're just trying to keep Assad in power and not worry about ISIS at all, which I think is stupid.

Everyone is being effected by em.

While the Russians have no love for Islamic terrorists, given their issues with the Chechnya, that is exactly Russia's long-term goal. They have been staunchly pro-status quo in the Middle East from Libya to Syria to the point where relations with the UK have been the worst for decades.

My problem with this is that Assad and Putin label any opposition force as terrorists.

pretty much all of them are, save the Peshmerga and Assyrian militias.

All the secular fighters are dead or Russia/Iran aligned.
The Southern Front? The YPG?

Reports say they aren't bombing ISIS controlled areas, but rebel held regions.

The fact that the Obama administration is not using this as an opportunity to thaw relations and find common ground with Russia says a lot.
Kiev could react negatively to that.
Now whether or not we should give a fuck about Kiev is another story, but we can expect politicians to care about Kiev.

Weren't the Kurds more or less about concerned about ISIS rather than Assad's regime? Basically if a group isn't against Assad, Russia won't hit them.

The Kurds simply want their own state - they view the region in the northern Syria as their territory, and with Assad busy elsewhere, they'll fight ISIS to keep control.

To add to this there are a number of Russian citizens in the mess down there fighting for ISIS. When they left Russia didn't care because they thought they'd been rid of potential domestic threats, but since ISIS lasted longer than they anticipated, they are concerned about those militants coming back to Russia with experience and training.

Of course, this is all in service to Putin's master plan to prove Russia a competent power again, conservatives are right to posit that, but when they say we should discourage the action that's just dumb.

The Kurds are pretty much the only decent/reliable people in this war but they don't want Damascus.

The ruskies are going to focus on clearing out ISIS and allow the SAA to focus on the other fronts with the other rebels.

On the same time they will be giving logistical and equipment support. Most of all logistical as thay can heavily change the tide of the war. Knowing when and where to hit is a great advantage. Training as well.

I wonder though if they will also push and open fronts with Nusra up north. That could easily hurt the rebels and destroy alot of their mobility.

Russia will take care of ISIS since the US won't in order to keep the surveillance state alive.

And given the surrounding events, I can't blame them. I'd rather have a dictator in power than a power vacuum for terrorists to take over. The US has shown twice (in the 21st century) it happens.

Ukraine and the whole anti-gay thing have the US all upset. I say anti-gay thing because the democrats in the US are more and more pro social issues.

For all of it's faults, I'm glad Russia isn't allowing itself to be defined by impotence like many other European states today.

Right, so as predicted Russian airstrikes were more than likely against US backed rebels. Nowhere fucking near IS controlled territory. Tensions gonna escalate.
