Does satire belong in serious?

Two threads have raised the question, so I'm just looking for your thoughts on the matter.

Do you think satire should be allowed in the serious board?

I would say that since they are fictional or used mainly for comedy, I wouldn't have them here.

They are sometimes used for baiting, which belongs in The Flood. If a serious discussion is expected, I'd use a serious article.

Edit: In some cases yes. But very few.

Depends. This shouldn't be allowed. There's no potential for discussion at all. Something like this, though, might actually produce some type of meaningful discussion.

I guess political satire has some sort of seriousness to it, so long as you can generate a discussion out of it

An example:

Did Disraeli really want to further democracy in the UK with 1867 reform act, or was he just an opportunist trying to rejuvenate the crumbling Tory/Conservative party after causing their downfall in 1842?

If it was just the image and nothing else in the OP, it's more "serious spam" than anything else.

If the point is to invoke critical thought rather than play off someone's extreme caricature for laughs, than maybe, provided serious forum type discussion can easily follow.

Pretty much. Like in particular, Meta linked a satire thread but revealed it was satire in a spoiler beneath the article. That way, you don't have most comments in the thread being "dude, its a satire article" instead of actual discussion.

Well take a look at the native american council thread, that was a satirical post but it generated 3 pages of discussion over immigration issues. Until it ended in QQs but eh, that's pretty inevitable when certain members start to argue.
