If the government allowed gun ownership.....

What can the government do at this point?

im wondering why the US hasnt stepped in. im woefully ignorant when it comes to mexico-US relations, but this is how i see things. it seems to me that having the cartels in power isnt beneficial for the US; they're just empowering our black market economy and flooding the nation with dangerous drugs. if we stop our domestic war on terror, we put a huge dent in the cartels right away. a full-scale "invasion" doesnt seem to be right.. maybe a UN coalition force comes in to help local militias/willing mexican military to fight off the cartels?its just odd to me. mexico is one of our greatest economic allies (heyyyy big oil, heyyyy,) and they're our direct neighbor to the south. why are we pushing the refugees back? why are we continuing to empower the cartels?
Quote from: Azumarill on November 21, 2014, 04:23:08 PMThis is more about widspread governmental corruption than the cartels though. The direct events leading up to these protests are the disappearance and death of 40 something college students, with the corrupt police force being directly to blame. The following governmental refusal to actually look into it (and the minister of justice saying something along the lines of "I'm tired of all these questions" when confronted by the parents of the murdered students asking for answers) and more and more reports of corruption on an incredible scale are what's making these people rise up and demand the resignation of their president.
