I would.

Humans as a species are social creatures, and for the majority of us, would go insane without it for long periods of time.It's psychological rather than physical, and I'd argue it leaves a more lingering effect afterwards than physical torture.

I remember in the 19th century they tried to rehabilitate prisoners with experimental "treatments", one of which was limiting social interactions to just a prison guard and a chaplain, even in exercise they were in isolation with blindfolds and distanced to prevent whispering. The results were rather negative, with increased cases of insanity and several suicides, and the experiment was abandoned. (EDIT: Read Flee's response, his explanation of it is better than my 3 year old GCSE history memories of it)

So yes, solitary confinement and social isolation is tantamount to torture.

It isn't JUST torture, it's the perfect torture. leaving a social being like a human in a room where in there is absolutely no noise, no visual stimulation, and nothing to interact with is just maddening. If I was the head of an interrogation place like the FBI, I wouldn't beat the info out, I'd just throw them in one of those negative decibel rooms where everything is muffled, turn off the lights, and leave them there until they scream out in insanity.

a good example of what solitary confinement can do, despite it being a kids show, and being over exaggerated, would be this one episode of a show called Recess.
