Do you admire anybody you disagree with?

This may seem like an odd question, as you presumably admire political figures for some level of agreement. However, are there any figures you respect despite disagreeing with them in some pretty fundamental ways?

The two biggest for me are Milton Friedman and Ben Bernanke. The first for having some pretty defunct ideas, and the second for being A) a Republican and B) not being aggressive enough while chairman of the Fed.

None really come to mind at the moment, but I'm sure there are some <.<

I don't really admire many people, there are a couple but they are for reasons that don't really apply to this thread.

i can't think of any public figures, but one of my best friends holds some pretty contrasting views to me, but still respect him.

Ron Paul

He's the politician that got me into libertarianism. I disagree with him on a ton of shit, but I respect that he wouldn't compromise on his beliefs the vast majority of the time (look at his voting record).

People on here though, I respect some people's arguments for their points differing to mine.

Friedman was entering adulthood during the depression. You can't really blame him for some of his teachings to be out of date.

I'm split on Orwell because I love his writing and his criticism of authoritarianism, but he was quite the statist himself.

Friedman was entering adulthood during the depression. You can't really blame him for some of his teachings to be out of date.

I'm entering adulthood as we climb out of the great recession. You can't really blame me for disagreeing with his out-of-date teachings.

Facetiousnes aside, the guy did only die in 2006, and even recognised some of his own failures towards the end of his life. I'm not passing criticism.
