Coronavirus panic room thread

Why did the WHO only just label it a pandemic a few days ago? I had thought it had been considered a pandemic for over a month now.

Disneyland Paris, The FL property, and Hawaii Resorts are the only Disney locations still open. Disneyland California just announced today they’ll shutdown Saturday night and won’t reopen until April.

Here in the FL property, we’re still operating under “Business as usual”.

Got the first case in our state yesterday. Second and third a few hours later. This morning it was announced that all schooling in our area (public schools, colleges, Unis) would be going fully online on March 23rd. I live around the Bentonville area though (aka Walmart central) so there are no shortages of any kind thankfully and all the rich people are taking it seriously.

Lucky. There are a few cases here in eastern NC and people have begun hoarding toilet paper and hand soap/sanitizer.

You know that scene in Independence Day when Will Smith walks out his house and sees all his neighbors packing their cars and shit and then he looks forward and sees that alien ship looking all scared and shit? That's how I feel right now. It just hit me.

The issue with this flu isn't the mortality rate, it's the fact that it's apparently so highly infectious and adaptable. I don't know if the rumors are true, but I hear that corona is now capable of making the jump to dogs, therefore enabling them to be carriers(if the rumors and talk is true at least)

The problem with viruses is that they mutate constantly. While the mortality rate of corona isn't really something to write home about, imagine what would happen if it developed a new strain that had a higher mortality rate and retained it's highly infectious qualities? We'd be looking at spanish flu all over again.

If anything, this whole charade is a warning that nobody really takes the threat of viruses seriously and nor do we have remotely near enough effective systems in place to deal with what's otherwise an evolutionary war that we're on the losing side of. Nevermind that, the work machine is taking hits mainly because of the stock market right now.

There are benefits of course to wiping out a bunch of boomers that are most likely hogging up property, but these people are someones relatives and loved ones too. This panic is really about protecting those that are vulnerable.

I don't want my time off, I don't want the pay that goes with it, I want everything to go back to normal.

Disney just announced that they're terminating all CP cast members. They have until The 18th to pack their bags and leave. I didn't work today so I didn't see anybody but from what I've heard from a friend who did work today, it was a nightmare in the tunnels below Magic Kingdom. I'm going to have to go in tomorrow and see what is up with my schedule starting Monday but the worst part is I'm going to have to say goodbye to 40+ cast I know and worked with for months now. I told myself I wouldn't get attached to them but now I'm having to watch them all leave abruptly.

The company said it was for their safety. I dare the executive who made this decision to say that to the face of a Chinese CP who now has to fly back to the provinces where they would be at more risk than staying here in FL. This is insane.

Apparently some asshole was buying all the soap and sanitizer in the groccery store my dad was in yesterday intending to resell the shit and wouldn't let anyone else have any. My dad has a really short fuse lets just say and nearly assaulted the guy. Thankfully he realized getting arrested isn't the best thing to be happening to him right now and just got out of there, but everyone else was just as pissed and cursing at the dude.

Covid 19 is concerning, but I'm honestly more worried about the ridiculous panic people seem to be in right now,and the asshole opportunists trying to seize on it for their own gain.

I work in a grocery store and what baffles me is that it's just mainly toilet paper that's flooding out. Some people are buying food of course, but I see more stocking up in paper.  Honestly, I'd think having food stocks would be a bigger priority than paper. And like what was talked about above in another post, I had a discussion with another employee over all the idiotic/shitty stuff people are doing. The non-sick can potentially be worse than those who are simply because sick people don't riot and loot stores. They kindly die off at home. I work in an alcohol vendor too. It's another layer of funny to see people stock on up on booze, and honestly kind of sad.

I went to the grocery store today to get some canned food and drinks to last me for a bit since I won't be working again until at least April 1st. A lot of meat, canned foods, rice, and produce were out. I was able to grab six cans of baked beans but I mostly got snack since I usually just get takeout/delivery anyways. I didn't have to worry about TP to begin with because A. My roommate is a coupon nut so we already had more TP than we know what to do with, and B. You can use a variety of other paper products as substitute.
