What is your stance on people who loot dumpsters for items that has been thrown away, but is still usable? For example, dumpsters outside of food stores that contain food items that either has or soon will expire, or has been thrown away for other reasons.

Why would anyone have a problem with it?

In fact I'm a dump diver. I loot all the free shit that gets dumped outside my town. A lot of good has come out of that place, despite it's horrible smell.

No joke, I salvaged an entire deck porch from the dump, cut it up, and used it all as firewood.

I wasn't thinking along the lines of looting private trash cans, but rather dumpsters owned by stores.

Items thrown away are abandoned.  You've surrendered your rights to them.  Why should you have a problem with me going through it?  Do you suddenly have less of an attachment to that item as soon as some sweaty guy with a bright vest throws it into the back of a smelly truck?
