As many of you are probably aware, Brett Kavanaugh is now sworn in.

This isn’t something I’ve followed really at all, and now trying to catch up, it just simply seems that Republicans think he’s innocent while Democrats think he’s guilty. This even goes for people I’d typically consider more nuanced on these types of things.

Apparently 55% if Republicans polled thought that he should be voted in even if he’s guilty. It’s getting to the point where I feel I’m doing myself a disservice listening to any and every political pundit.

Do you think that Kavanaugh should have been voted in?

Do you think there’s enough evidence to be suspicious or even condemn him?

No. Something like that would've been extremely hard to prove the day after it happened, good fucking luck finding something 36 years later. With that said, he's innocent until proven guilty and all the people saying that doesn't matter because it's not an actual trial can piss off, it's the principle/idea/spirit of the thing.

But no, he knows the only reason he's there is to push the "Trump can pardon himself" initiative knowing that there will most likely be a democratic senate come December that will push to impeach.

I like Peterson but that is complete nonsense. If he's completely right for the job why shouldn't he keep his position? All him stepping down would do is appease the people who have worked nonstop for the last month to drag his name through the mud. Anyone Trump nominates is going to go through just as much of a shit show and the seat would be left vacant until who the fuck knows. That's not fair to the people qualified who might be nominated, it's not fair to the Senate (both parties) having to repeat the whole process, and it's not fair to the American people having to watch it.

As for the second half, I know that the opposition party tends to win in the mid-terms but this whole fiasco has spurred multiple news articles on a GOP surge in voter-turnout.

This. As soon as I heard him wave away all of the accusations as a conspiracy generated as "revenge for the Clintons" I stopped thinking he should have the seat. Judges will have conservative or liberal inclinations (whether slight or riding the margins) but they shouldn't be a part of the partisan circus. Now the Supreme Court, the last branch of the government that the people had faith in, has fallen to the swamp in D.C. just like the other two.

Honestly is anyone even able to get anywhere in politics/law without being partisan in the current political landscape? Seems like everyone is becoming heavily tribal and moderates are becoming more and more ostracized for committing to remain impartial.

There have been attempts even during the confirmation hearings, like Flake's reach across the isle resulting in the limited-scope FBI investigation. What's sad is that, despite how sad it is that "maybe we should at least do a cursory investigation of the allegations first" is considered bipartisan, what's worse is that the Republican pundit and every-man thinks he's a spineless traitor for it.

Ultimately, the broader application of bipartisanship in the U.S. died with McCain (regardless of his character). You'll see it at the state and local level on non-issues, or beyond on issues that the greater citizenship cares about (like RFRA).

I'm not sure how far up your own ass you have to be to not see the fact that Trump sold out America to the Russians or that Kavanaugh was only chosen because he said the President could pardon himself in the event he gets impeached (which he will if Dems win midterms.)

I could see this being true, but generally I won't blindly follow every narrative pushed by the masses without there being convincing evidence.
