The more someone knows about me, the more danger it means for me.
If you're insane, and paranoid. And stupid.

Just because you are all of these things doesn't mean that I am. There is no reason I should care about my privacy.

So in other words, you're a corporate shill. But no matter how you twist it, it's still an invasion of privacy.

You could literally apply the "you pay for it but it's not yours" to every item you purchase in existence. It's a poor excuse to invade into private information.

It's not "private information" because you are not hosting the data. You are paying for the access, and for the ISP, to host everything you do. They host the data, they hold it's contents. As I said, if you don't like how those rules are you are always welcome to petition the Supreme Court to change the 4th Amendment:

Quote
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures

None of which covers the data ISP's have control over.
That doesn't make it okay

Never said it's okay. My first post was that I don't care because I have nothing to hide. If someone wants to dig through my Gmail emails or my downloads, fine. They'll see that I download Lady Gaga music.

If you really want to make a difference, stop complaining about it on an offshoot website and take legal action. You're perfectly able to as a US citizen to start making a change instead of complaining about how "wahhh it isn't fair!" on a forum.

Then clearly it's a broken system that needs to be changed, because much of it is private information. Like Slash stated, the fact you buy so easily into such a corrupt narrative is why our government is steadily getting away with more nefarious activities. The amendment needs to be updated to modern times.

And stop using "HURRRRR PETITION SCOTUS LOL" as if it's fucking easy for any average person to do.

No, I am cautious and alert. The world is an insanely unpredictable place, and just because I value preparedness and value my own life doesn't make it paranoia.

I don't give a shit about how you treat your private affairs, but you sure as hell shouldn't push it for others.

But it is

If an 83 year old could do it, you have no god damn excuse.

Doesn't really matter since people like you and Turkey exist and make up the general population.

Great attitude. Sure is a good thing the Founding Fathers didn't revolt, because there were loyalist who were fine with the way it was!

Actually I do:

1. 83 years of life experience to use.

2. 83 year old people have literally nothing better to do.

3. My life is too busy to bother investing time in a side project when I have bills to pay.

4. Still implying it's easy.

And I'm done here. Continue the circle jerk of "Lol Right to Privacy" when you both know that there are plenty of methods you can do to make a difference if you so choose.

Complaining here is not one.

K bye bye, have fun shilling out to corporations and a corrupt government. They sure do love all the obedient pawns who willingly give over all their private info AND polish their shoes.

If you agree to provide information in exchange for access to the service (which is nearly always outlined in the T&C or a similarly binding agreement), then you should have no issue with it taking place. They aren't removing your right to privacy, you're selling it in the name of comfort.

Then there should be clearly a different method of exchange.

Some businesses don't require access to your personal information (such as email, spending habits, etc); they require a transaction of monetary value. If you would prefer it to be the latter, invest your attention in businesses that ask for money and boycott the ones who ask for information.

Not if the information boils down to, "This person follows all the rules of society."

Which it would.

Doesn't matter, the information can change. There are countless variables at work all the time. First, it shows someone "following all the rules of society". Oh but after some time, the person fucks up. And now that appears.

There are dynamics to everything. It's not so linear as you think.

>Entirely missing the point, again

Sure, maybe the person deserves some repercussions. But it's not for a corporation to decide, nor know about. Having that info stored away, ready to be pulled out and used for smear material should ever that person become a threat, is sickening. The fact you support this is sickening and hypocritical.

Not to mention it discounts the fact that human beings make mistakes and true accidents will happen. Punishing a person for an honest mistake is also disgusting, and I find it disgusting you support punishment for that.

Also the whole "well you're using free software so they have the right to datamine you."

That's the fucking shitties excuse ever. Linux is free and doesn't datamine
It's not "free" if you're making an exchange. The Penguin Group asks for money in return for their books; Google ask for access to your search history in exchange for using their search engine, or permission to view your emails in return for using their email service.

If you find a product truly being given away, then that's great. But that doesn't mean restaurants should give their soup away for free because the Soup Kitchen does (edit: actually, the Soup Kitchen doesn't even give away food. They ask that you volunteer as staff in return for the meals you eat. So even in charity, there's a transaction). They tell you what they are asking for, it's your duty as a conscientious consumer to understand your transactions and to act in accordance with what you believe is best for yourself and the population. If this means finding an email and search engine that don't ask for personal information, then so be it.

You edited that in, shithead.

It's pretty goddamn easy to tell between an accident and an actual purposeful act.
