Are transwomen a type of man?

Saw this premise in a crappy online article, and I'll excise the garbage and pose the question, which I haven't given much thought yet. Specifically it was regarding the casting of cis men in roles of transwomen in film.

I'd ask that you post a response more thoughtful than "yes" or "no", and try to give an insightful answer to a shallow question.

Biologically, yeah. No amount of sex changes are going to change your XY chromosomes.

But that doesn't necessarily mean we should abdicate the gender they identify with. If they truly, positively identify as a female then society should recognise them as female.

Personally trans issues don't really interest me all that much, and I think the left has overblown the topic to the point where no one wants to touch it with a ten foot bargepole, but if they want to identify with the gender they were not assigned with at birth that's fine, just don't act like a special snowflake tumblrina about it.

Even if, hypothetically, we found a way to change our chromosomes to match the gender we feel more comfortable with, there would still be people out there thinking that's not good enough. They would just find some other technicality to harp on.

"He didn't ORIGINALLY have XX chromosomes, so that means he's still a guy and will always be a guy."

People would be that desperate.

Going by the assumption that the decision was made with thought and preparation (including talking with family members, friends etc.), what would be your concern regarding a sex change (or in this case chrosome change, which is even more thorough than a conventional sex change)?

Transwomen are definitely women. If someone identifies as female then I'll respect that, and gratefully share the women's bathroom with them, because they are women too. I don't understand why some women are freaked out thinking a transwoman would rape them or something idiotic like that. They're not into you lady. /rant.

This is something only the creators of the movie have to decide and not someone else. If it's somehow important to them that there's a transwoman starring then it is. But the content and the message of the movie will still remain the same if a man plays the role of a transgender woman in a respectable manner and it would be irrational to get upset about the casting.

Otherwise people would get upset about Angelina Jolie's role as Mariane Pearl in 'A Mighty Heart' as well as the roles of many other actors.

I mean I'll refer to a trans person correctly to save myself a headache but unless they develop some kind of surgery that'll completely change them to the other sex I'll always consider them what they born as.
