I can't for the life of me remrmber a time anti-theists have systematically suppressed women.Or killed thousands of people for believing in the wrong god.Or killed people for believing in the wrong version of the same god.Or made bomb threats against people for making jokes about them.Or systematically oppressed people of nonstandard sexuality. No, FUCK religion in any organized form. The whole "muh militant atheist fedora oppressors!" thing is a fucking farce and anyone with half a fucking brain knows this.
If folks want to believe in some creepy dude who's always watching us and is a fucking failure as far as all knowing and all powerful motherfuckers go, fine by me. Just keep that shit to yourself and don't think it has any relevancy in a serious discussion.
Best way to let religion die is to let the conversation die.
I'm an anti-theist, so I...uh...feel obligated to reply here.I know a lot of atheists who say stuff like "Hey man, it's not my business; you can believe what you want to believe." And that, in and of itself, is alright in my book. But that's not how the big religions work; they're all about spreading the word and recruiting new members and it seeps into everything.I live in the US, so for those of you elsewhere, sorry. Things might be different where you are, but here, the Judeo-Christian faith is on our money, in our pledge (that nobody really cares about, but still...), and in our government. The shit is everywhere, and it continues to try to get into places it has no business being. There is a regular rotation of petitions and bills being presented that want to allow creationism to be taught alongside evolution as a theory. This kind of blind belief is dangerous. The leaders of the faith encourage people to abandon reason and suspend belief for their god, and then these people turn around and vote. Congress has an absolutely absurd number of believers (in one faith or another); I don't have the exact number, but I think it's around 99% or so as there might be one or two atheists by now. These guys run the country and are convinced they each have a personal relationship with an invisible man. It's mass delusion being disguised as integrity and moral behavior, and to be honest it scares me.Anyway, that's sort of why I consider myself an anti-theist. I try not to let this sort of strong opinion out often, but well, you did make the topic...
How many fucking times does this shit have to be explained to you? I know I've had to explain it to you twice already. The actions of Stalin and Hitler are not based on a religious teaching or inspired by their disbelief in god. They are based on their respective philosophical stances, Marxism and Nazism, which are more along the lines of State-religions than actual religions. Stalin did not try to suppress religion because "hurr god isn't real", he tried to suppress it because Marx claimed it was a threat to the state. Hitler's opposition to religion, again, was based on his belief that it posed a threat to him. They were atheists and they were evil, yes, but they weren't evil in the name of atheism, they were evil in the name of Marxism and Nazism. The same way the crusaders were evil in the name of Jesus christ, the same way Jihadists are evil in the name of Allah. One could also argue that the people who served Stalin and Hitler worshiped their states with the same zeal Christians do their godDo NOT blame atheists for the actions of statists.
Hitler never actually killed Christians unless they were dissidents, so don't give me that shit. He needed the support of German christians. They were the majority. His hatred of jews was of their entire culture and ethnicity, not just their faith.Stalin, again, was a Marxist, and that's how the fuck Marxism works. Marxism, like Nazism, is a form of state religion. It demands loyalty on the same level as a religion. It is by it's own admission incompatible with religion.Hitler's own personal beliefs are also subject to debate, as he has made conflicting comments, and certainly used christian imagery in his propaganda. I'd like to know which "historians" you're citing here.
You realize bother Hitler and Stalin were atheists, right? They killed more people in a few years than the death toll of the Crusades, which lasted for centuries. In fact, historians agree that Hitler's plan was the eradication of Christianity in Germany. Plus Richard J. Evans wrote that "Hitler emphasised again and again his belief that Nazism was a secular ideology founded on modern science. Science, he declared, would easily destroy the last remaining vestiges of superstition [-] 'In the long run', [Hitler] concluded, 'National Socialism and religion will no longer be able to exist together'"Oh, and forget that the 10 most deadly wars in human history resulted from politics, not religion. I mean who the fuck decides to kill millions of people due to some prince being assassinated? You have some real major personal problems for being such an edgy moron. Don't even bother debating me on the historical facts on this. I know my shit better than you ever will
Hitler wasn't an atheist. The problem with that line of reasoning, anyway, is that it just avoids the problem. The problem isn't religion, per se, it's a state of worshipfulness. Christopher Hitchens once said that North Korea is the most religious state on the planet. A totalitarian regime is going to incite worship in the same way as a supernatural one.
I didn't even bother reading your copy-pasted Great Wall of China. Why the fuck would I waste my time doing that? Lol.
Hitler was an atheist thoughHistorians such as Ian Kershaw, Joachim Fest and Alan Bullock agree that Hitler was anti-Christian - a view evidenced by sources such as the Goebbels Diaries, the memoirs of Speer, and the transcripts edited by Martin Bormann contained within Hitler's Table Talk.Goebbels wrote in 1941 that Hitler "hates Christianity, because it has crippled all that is noble in humanity. Hitler in adulthood became disdainful of Christianity
