"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
Sometimes I actually forget people base their beliefs on this stuff.
People also base their beliefs on the idea of Gangsta culture and rap songs and shit.
When it comes down to it, basing your beliefs on something dumb that promotes good is really not all too bad in comparison.

So you're one of those that pick and choose from the Bible to suit you?
He doesn't seem like he is.

Keep in mind there's a book in the Bible that's essentially love letters, and plenty are the opinions of Paul, Peter, and other saints/disciples.

No. I'm saying Jesus' Greatest Commandment trumps all others(it literally says "all law are bound by these 2 commandments).

If you follow these 2, all the other commandments are fulfilled. Because if you love God and love people, you won't lie to them, kill them, etc.

My stupidity is self evident.
Oh, so you're cool with gays now?
I've been cool with the idea that they are free to make their own choices. I'm not here to order them around or condemn them.

Does the Bible speak out against it? Yes. Does the Bible tell me to make people live Biblically by force? No.

I'm supposed to love all sinners for I am one too.

The bible speaks against it and for it. The was a gay couple that god really loved. Can't exactly remember their names... so someone else do that for me.
it was Adam and Steve.

I'm not looking to fedora extra-hard here but I'm just going to put my 2 cents in.

-old half written by bronze/iron age mystics, w/ no knowledge of the modern world
-new bits written in a time period where mystery religions w/ their respective messiahs were fairly popular
-the only source we have that says it's the  actual word of God is itself
-the version we use today was apparently compiled by committee, who's to say they got the right bits

Again op, I'm not looking to shit on you but the bible doesn't exactly scream, "the best possible source of worldviews" to me.

I may not agree with you. But know that at the end of the day my faith or choices are not justified by telling you how to live your life, or whether something is right or wrong. You make your own choices, and I make my own as well. I can disagree all I want, but am I supposed to stop you from making your own choices? HECK NO! You live your life, and I live mine.

I'm not here to judge you.
I'm here to love you.

Great, wonderful, anything else you'd care to discuss or are you just here to tell me that you're not an ass?

You're entire OP was just you explaining that you are religious and don't use it as an excuse to be an ass, so I wouldn't say it was much more than that.

I explained that I follow what the Bible teaches on several issues, but that many get the misconception that doing so means I'm judgemental or condemning.

But by following Jesus' greatest commandment I do what I explained in the OP.

I should really pick up the Bible and read it all. I've only read bits and pieces. At the very least it would be educational

Reading it from front to back will make you want to claw your eyes out at points. I'm sure there's someplace that suggests what parts are worth reading in order.

There's also the matter that books like Psalms and Job are near impossible to read through completely.

Space it out. Read either small books like 1 John, 2 John and 3 John, or a few chapters of larger books.

it was more of a leading question into if the bible is seen as complete or not

It is complete. It was finished around 100 A.D, so many of the writers of the New Testament were still alive.

That gives us something even better: verification.
If a false gospel was being preached, the writers of the Gospels or those who read them could say "this isn't true" or "this is true". They could prove whether a text was authentic or not.

You probably know about many of the "forgotten gospels" that aren't in the bible. Why aren't they considered Canon? Because they were either proven false by a New Testament writer or someone who knew the gospels, or its authenticity couldn't be proven or disproven but was simply in question.

So we have a great sense of accuracy among the Gospels and New Testament books because the writers could call out anything false they came about. They could prove any text's authenticity that made it into the bible.

I didn't remember it happening that quickly, so I looked it up and this is what I got.
Quote
The books of the canon of the New Testament were written mostly in the first century and finished by the year 150 AD....The Biblical canon was the result of debate and research, reaching its final term for Catholics at the dogmatic definition of the Council of Trent in the 16th Century, when the Old Testament Canon was finalized in the Catholic Church as well.
I remember the Council of Trent, and while that was really just the Catholic church formalizing it, there seems to have been plenty of debate about it while the authors were alive, and then after. Although, it says most were agreeing with the major books by 200 AD.
