The only problem with that is the fact that if you were to move faster than light, we'd leave our universe. If we were take your theory into account.

We don't want to leave our universe. We want to travel to the moon, and mars, and all the other solar bodies in our backyard quickly. But we don't want to overshoot the runway because then we get into some really fucking bad territory.

Well you'd need to figure what area of the Higgs Field you're altering. Once you exit the altered field you should return to normal speed, so you wouldn't fly out the Universe.

Again, likely potentially incredibly dangerous.

Because you're bending the field, you're exiting our known realm of physics where everything we know no longer applies. Our laws of physics, everything we know might no longer apply and therefore what we build might not even be able to function outside of the field our universe exists in.

the Higgs field defines the speed of light

I'm sorry mate but as far we can tell the speed of light is due to the properties of space time itself. The Higgs field is just responsible for lending mass to other wise massless elementary particles.

See you Cowgirl,
Someday, somewhere

But what if the universe right next to ours has magic in it.

I read that it was responsible and that the reason the speed of light exists is because it doesn't interact with the Higgs Field.
the reason that photons travel at the speed of light is because they don't  interact w/ the Higgs field and are therefor massless, yes. Massless particles(any massless particle) travel at that constant speed by default. I think the constant itself is decided by the properties of spacetime itself, IIRC.

So, then we don't move. Instead we move the space around us. WARP 10, NUMBAH ONE!

I thought the Higgs Field gave everything mass? Is it just massless particles?
it gives mass to all other elementary particles(quarks, leptons) which are all intrinsically massless, except for certain bosons(photons, gravitons) which for some reason don't interact with it (I can't recall why). Except that begs the question of where it's own mass comes from. . .

Actually most of the mass in a proton for example comes from the energy of the strong nuclear bond that binds it's quarks together. The mass imparted to the individual quarks by the Higgs field is actually << than the proton that they make up.
